 journey Band Reviews
Journey finally seem to be getting on their artistic feet again, after a very long time spent climbing the pop charts with often saccharine results.
Journey was one of those corporate rock groups that had good success and I appreciate their work but I felt a little letdown with this boxed set (released in 1992) because it is not remastered.
Journey would go into more of a pop/rock direction on their follow-up effort Evolution which wasnt necessarily a bad thing but Infinity has all of the elements necessary to be considered a classic cd.

"Journey's Evolution: Their Wheel in The Sky Lights Up"; Bam Magazine, March 16, 1979
Outside, the original members of Journey - Neal Schon, Gregg Rolie, and Ross Valory - sit down and recall the past six years since they formed the band in 1973. ; The feeling of success is not a totally alien experience for any of them.
Considering Perry's dynamic stage presence, it is a small wonder that Journey's fans had much trouble accepting him.  After all, this is a person who would wire himself and fly out over the crowd to the back balcony if he had his way, that's how much he wants to connect with the audience.
Although Perry added his considerable vocal and performing skills to Journey's sound just before the band achieved their greatest success, he denies that he is the sole reason for their spurt.

FRONTIERS - A TRIBUTE TO JOURNEY
on september 6th, 1983, the multiplatinum rock band journey performed what was to be their last ever show as the lineup that would go on to eventually sell over 55 million albums and spawn such hits as "don't stop believin'," "open arms," and "separate ways."
despite journey's commercial success with the album raised on radio in 1986, and a short lived reunion ten years later, journey never again managed to hold on to the magic that defined an era - living instead in the shadow of their own legend.
anyone lucky enough to see journey at the height of their success knows that what the band achieved on vinyl was nothing compared to the all-out spectacle that was journey live.

Journey disbanded until 1996, when they mounted a comeback with Trial By Fire, which stuck to virtually the same sound of a decade earlier and, mercifully, featured no techno remixes of their '80s hits.
In recent years, Journey has sustained itself mostly as a highly lucrative classic-rock oldies road show, and while Perry is no longer in the fold, soundalike vocalist Steve Augeri, fulfilling what seems to have been a lifelong ambition, keeps Journey's hard-pop aesthetic alive and well.

At that point the band was hugely successful and egos swell: there were struggles for power and control of the band's direction.
Journey's strength is really to play what we call the 'dirty dozen' - 12 hit songs - but I think we ended up playing about 18 songs from all stages of our career.
That was the thing with the 'Generations' theme and concept: there's so many fans out there who have grown up with the band's music, they now have children and grandchildren and you'll see possibly three generations of families there, and you see how they share their appreciation.

Not only did Journey have the battle of the band that struggle that brought them to their current line-up but each individual member fought a personal battle of his own in the last year.
Maybe it was the enforced introspection that inspired Journey to keep it simple and that very simplicity dictated that Journey be one of the first bands in the video age not to make a video for any of the songs off of the new album.
We're still Journey, by all the sounds, I mean, it still sounds like a Journey record to me, but I think, we did try some definite blues things, some R&B, things that are another kind of a groove for us, y'know, where we wanted to try something a little bit different.
