The title "Journeyman" would appear to be a bit of modesty by an artist who has been a towering figure in rock music for nearly thirty years.
While "Journeyman" is no exception to that rule, it is still one of his better solo efforts.
After releasing the two worst albums of his career, Behind The Sun and August, Eric Clapton released one of the first box sets to capitalize on the new format known as compact disks, Crossroads.

 Eric Clapton Album Reviews
Journeyman (Reprise ‘89) Rating: B+ Crossroads was a model box set that renewed interest in Eric Clapton’s career, and he responded with his most guitar-driven, and not coincidentally, best effort in years.
After a disappointing duet album with B.B. King (2000's Riding With The King) and a forgettable follow up to Pilgrim (2001's Reptile, which is most notable for the appearance of The Impressions on backing vocals), Eric Clapton retrenched and returned to his first and dearest love, the blues.
Though the album's loose, upbeat atmosphere is something of a surprise (a surprise I suspect old Robert wouldn't approve of), the album's polished sound and tame performances are par for the course if one considers his other recent efforts.

This massive double-disc album is akin to an encyclopedia of electronic-music innovation that requires years of study to digest.
Though, at the time, the duo's sounds were derivative and the album possessed an enigmatic genius that captured listeners' imaginations and spawned a legion of imitators.
The album is a caged deathmatch between speaker-damaging synthlines and rage-inducing guitar riffs.

As Woob he made two albums - the third is coming - with the weirdest, non-human made music in the 90's.
The radio-friendly version of Woob is called Journeyman, but the music is still weird enough to make you doubt whether there's a human behind all of this - or an alien.
The first Journeyman album "Mama 6" was hard to find, but reactions were positive.

Journeyman : National Hijinx - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Journeyman is Paul Frankland of Woob's more full-bodied project.
Maintaining the spare, amplified downbeat textures of the latter, Frankland with Journeyman focuses his attention on the cavernous spaces between Woob's echoing beats and mesmerizing rhythms, adding greater movement and a gorgeous depth of detail.
As with much material by Woob, Journeyman's National Hijinx is replete with movie references which match the music's cinematic wanderings stroke for stroke.

Through the years, the band's sound evolved to encompass far more: After three albums they became a duo and esentially did away with vocals, and released another string of four albums for the Island label that are monuments of inventiveness, although seldom fully appreciated by those who cut their teeth on the first three.
Their best album in many years, it is a return to their progressive years, it even includes an improv with some orchestra members, reminding to their early 70's releases.

The new Jerry Williams contribution on Journeyman is "Breaking Point," and it is easily the worst song of the album.
That Clapton has still found it necessary on his most recent albums to rely on synthesized instrumentation and programmed drums is a distressing sign of just how far he has fallen.

A journeyman, after all, is hardly the most glamorous of workers.
Yet there's a sly sense of pride lurking beneath this title; the journeyman may only be a hired gun, but he knows he's a damned good shot.
Yet rather than reduce the album's impact, Clapton's insistence on underplaying is a stunning demonstration of the power of restraint.

BBC - Folk & Country Review - Gerry O'Connor, Journeyman
Gerry O'Connor's previous work with the bands Skylark and La Lúgh is hardly high-profile, but it's clear from the quality of the playing on Journeyman that he's among Ireland's finest traditional musicians.
Likewise, the fact that only aficionados are likely to hear any familiar tunes among these twelve tracks isn't because they weren't worthy of recording, but rather a reflection of the depth of Irish folklore.
Another star of this album is O'Connor's son Dónal, who contributes rollicking piano on about half the tracks, and shadows his father on second fiddle for the set jigs that kick off with "The Day The Ass Ran Away".

O'Connor's first solo release, the modestly-titled Journeyman (presumably intended here in its sense of a time-served craftsman, rather than a jobbing labourer) is an excellent set of tunes learned from and/or written by an array of musical friends and mentors over the years.

The last innovative album they made was 7th Son Of A 7th Son, although that was in the more of the techno-dance nature with the fast paced grooves.
