Joyce Irene Grenfell, OBE (née Phipps; 10 February 1910 – 30 November 1979) was an English film and television actress, comedienne and singer-songwriter.
Born in London, she was the daughter of architect Paul Phipps and an eccentric American mother, Nora Langhorne, the daughter of an American railroad millionaire and sister of Nancy Astor.
Grenfell was a member of the Church of Christ, Scientist, a religious organisation based on Christianity and spiritual healing.

Joyce felt that prior to this time the characters she portrayed were mainly ninnies, but she finally got up her courage to write a piece that wasn't meant to be funny and was gratified by the reception to THREE BROTHERS.
Joyce played another gawky enthusiastic woman, this time who shouts "lovely ducks" to entice attendees at a theatrical garden party to shoot at moving duck shaped targets in order to win a doll; her short scene is with Alastair Sim.

Joyce Grenfell (1910-1979) was a British comedienne who was the Queen of the comic monologue, and was an acclaimed comedy performer on stage, radio and television.
Her first solo act was called Joyce Grenfell Requests the Pleasure (1954) at the Fortune and St Martin's Theatre, which she eventually took to the USA.
The Joyce Grenfell Archive is a personal collection which contains correspondence, drawings, monologues, scripts for radio and television, as well as books and photographs that reflect her talents, interests and contacts in the entertainment industry.

Joyce met her husband Reggie Grenfell, in 1927 and two years later they were married, living in a cottage on the Cliveden Estate lent by aunt Nancy.
Grenfell was also an avid letter writer and her friendship with Virginia Graham lasted for 62 years until her death in November 1979.
