 The Kosciuszko Foundation
In 1875 Brandt was elected to the Berlin Academy, in 1878 to the Munich Academy, and in 1900 to the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.
Brandt`s principal subjects were scenes of the seventeenth-century Cossack`s wars and the Tatar and Swedish invasions of Poland, His were imaginative treatments, and not representations of precisely defined historical moments, though he took great pains to accurately depict costumes, weapons, harnesses, and musical instruments, models for all of which filled his studio.
Brand`t canvases hang in nearly all Polish museums and he is represented also in museums and private collections in America and Europe.

 About Jozef Korolkiewicz.
Jozef Korolkiewicz was born in Godziszewy near Plock.
Jozef Korolkiewicz was a versatile man: he also was an opera singer and a sportsman; he simultanously studied painting and vocal art.
His own art is a blend of the romantic vision of nature with touches of Delacroix or Gericault (both had many splendid studies of horses to their credit) and the postimpressionistic palette enriched with the tone of expression.

 ART / 4 / 2DAY
In 1860 Brandt returned to Poland with Kossak, and the two artists travelled to the Ukraine and Podole: the beauty of the eastern borderlands made a lasting impression on Brandt, and this region became the chief setting for his paintings.
Until 1862 Brandt remained largely under Kossak’s influence, both in his subject-matter (drawn largely from the 17th-century military and hunting life of the borderlands) and in his colouring and technique, especially in his watercolors.
In 1861 Brandt exhibited a series of drawings and watercolour sketches in Warsaw at the Society for the Promotion of the Fine Arts, drawing his subjects from patriotic literature, and his work was well-received by the public.

The academy's first director, the academically trained German-born painter Carl Brandt, collected more than 100 works for the institution between 1883 and his death in 1905, traveling abroad to acquire pieces by academic artists like Karl Franz Gebhardt, Arthur Hacker, Jozef von Brandt, and Julian Story.
Brandt himself painted a posthumous portrait of the museum's founder, Mary Telfair, and created eight murals for the academy building, four of which are installed in the academy's rotunda.
In 1906 the Telfair's board appointed American artist Gari Melchers to serve as the institution's purchasing agent.

In Poland, auctions tend to be restricted to prewar paintings, while postwar works are more likely to be available in galleries.
The top draws in the prewar market are 19th-century late-Romantic painters of landscapes and patriotic scenes, such as Józef Chełmoński (1849-1914), Józef Brandt (1841-1915) and Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski (1849-1915) of the Munich School.
Two of Brandt's paintings, Market in Balta, Podalia (Jarmark w Balcie na Podolu) (1886) and Mustering the Troops Beside a Stream (Pospolite ruszenie u brodu) (1880), fetched the highest prices of the year at auction, zl.385,000 and zl.375,000 for Warsaw's Agra Art.

 National Museum in Warsaw
The beginnings of realism may be traced in Marcin Zaleski's townscapes and interiors, Franciszek Kostrzewski's genre scenes and Jozef Szermentowski's pictures deriving from the tradition of French painting (Annex 4).
Realistic tendencies, intensifying in the second half of the 19th c., are evident in the output of many artists educated at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, including Jozef Brandt, Maksymilian Gierymski, Adam Chmielowski, Jozef Chelmonski, Julian Falat and Aleksander Gierymski, a painter continually in search of his self-identity (Rooms VI and VII).
The Polish variety of Impressionism is represented by the paintings of Wladyslaw Podkowinski, Jozef Pankiewicz and Leon Wyczolkowski (Room VIII), shown alongside other works by the same artists painted when Symbolism was the dominant influence on their oeuvre.
