The Serrallés story began in 1865 on the Hacienda Mercedita sugar plantation near the city of Ponce on Puerto Rico’s south coast.

Jose Higuera, vice president of Serralles, said the company planned to start distributing their rums from New York to other cities in the U.S. He did not say when they expected to begin distribution.
Felix Juan Serralles Jr., one of the company owners, said those distributors didn't perform well because the product wasn't manufactured by them.

During the 1920's, a group of friends from Ponce, Puerto Rico frequently got together at the residence of Pedro Juan Serrallés, located in the Mercedita Refinery ("Central Mercedita") to watch popular silent films of the times.
It was with this purpose that in 1928, Pedro Juan Serrallés decided to buy land in front of Plaza Las Delicias to construct a theather.
The name Fox Delicias stems from the relationship at that time with Fox Films Corporation (later merged with Twentieth Century Pictures and formed today's Twentieth Century Fox) and its location in front of the most beautiful "plazas" of Puerto Rico, "Plaza de Recreo Las Delicias" in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
