 Wisconsin's Erin Ansfield named Purdue's 22nd Golden Girl
Former band director Al Wright began the tradition in 1954 when quarterback Lenny Dawson was referred to by the press as Purdue’s "Golden Boy." Wright put gold sequins on Juanita Carpenter and named her the "Golden Girl." After Dawson graduated, his nickname faded, but the Golden Girl has continued as a Purdue tradition.

 John William 'Bill' Sutherland
He was preceded in death by his parents; older brother, J.R. Sutherland; two sisters, Donna Wright and Venita Harvard; an infant daughter, Juanita Mae; a son, Bill J. Sutherland; and two grandsons.
Born July 30, 1925, in Maysville, Mo., he was the son of Chancey and Marcella (Roach) Sutherland; and, at age 5, moved with his mother and stepfather, Elmer Mills, to Ten Sleep, where he was raised as a cowboy and rancher.
Survivors include his brother, Ken Sutherland, and his wife of Crofton, Neb.; three daughters and their husbands, Willa Bywater of Evansville, Kittie Donahue of Livingston and Lonna Wilson of Bozeman, Mont.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
