The family is known as the Skippers because the butterflies exhibit a rapid, erratic ("skipping") flight pattern.
The Skippers are not considered to be "true" butterflies, but are more closely related to the true butterflies than are the moths.

The distributions and abundance of the three species of Hesperia within Orange County is poorly known and needs to be clarified by additional field work.
Generally, little is known about skipper biology and behavior because most lepidopterists prefer to study true butterflies.
