Jubilation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jubilation was the twelfth and final album by Canadian-American rockers The Band.
For the first and only time in their latter-day career, bucking the trend set on the first two records, there were more originals than covers on Jubilation.
Highlights of the album include "Last Train to Memphis", featuring laid-back licks by guest guitarist Eric Clapton, Garth Hudson's otherworldly instrumental closer "French Girls" (actually, a solo vehicle for Hudson), Rick Danko's "High Cotton" and the ode to Ronnie Hawkins, "White Cadillac".

Sam McNally Jubilation - Sunburntmusic - For Australian Independent Music...
Jubilation" is the new CD from keyboardist Sam McNally, "the consummate musician" (according to journalist Michael Smith).
"Jubilation" was recorded in Melbourne, Sydney and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, during 2002 and 2003, and was mastered in London, with an enormous amount of 'attention to detail'.
The masterful drummer/percussionist David Jones, a long-time colleague with whom Sam has played in dozens of musical situations, performs magnificently throughout most of the album, ably supported on several tracks by Melbourne's Darryn Farrugia (who was a part of "Hey Hey It's Saturday" for 9 years).

"Jubilation" certainly revealed a group that knew the odds were against them; Danko's death a year later ended The Band's career.
The disc begins fittingly with 'Book Faded Brown,' a description of the virtues of family, which is exactly what The Band and the friends that guest on the album have become.
"Jubilation" is one of The Band's finest hours.

New Order - Technique - Stylus Magazine
The album traverses the gap between ecstasy-fueled jubilation to the pang of unrequited love within a hearbeat, and makes it work.
Technique is really two albums in one: on one hand, you have intense, four-on-the-floor danceclub anthems; neon odes to drugs, sex and decadence.
Technique is at once the end of New Order’s golden era, while giving life to a new era in dance pop/rock.

Although it is argued that an album's graphic design rarely captures the essence of the work inside, the powerful rebirthing image of a rock-solid Marley emerging with his arms raised in triumph could not be a more accurate visual description of the musical jubilation within.
The stark contrast from the decidedly electric and group-oriented album to this hauntingly beautiful solo acoustic composition is as dramatic as it is visionary.
Be aware that you might have to give this album repeated listens before you can "cultivate" a real appreciation for this classic reggae album.

Though the group toured and released subsequent albums (their latest, last year's "Jubilation," featured Clapton guesting on a track), the Band and the albums were mostly ignored by the public and anathematized by critics.
Despite the hard times, there were still flashes of brilliance: their live double album "Rock of Ages," the Band's 1974 reunion tour with Dylan (still the highest-grossing tour in history) and certain songs on their subsequent albums.
Danko also released several live solo albums on his own indie label throughout the '90s.

Their first album without Robertson, "Jericho" was one of the best surprises of 1993, and one of their strongest studio efforts, with the additions of new members but longtime cohorts Jim Weider, Richard Bell, and Randy Ciarlante.
But if you're familiar with the 1968-1976 albums and are curious about the group's later years, you will enjoy this lovely signature piece from one of the finest and most original groups in music history.
This album may contain only 3 of the original members but it still gives a feeling of some good ole southern Band music.

Missing here is anything from their most recent album, Speaking In Tongues, for Alligator Records, or from the Real World gospel release, Jubilation.
The two best examples of this ability are heard on "I've Been A Loser" (the only selection from the 1991 album Where It's At), with its Memphis-style horn accompaniment, and a beautiful arrangement of Lennon and McCartney's "And I Love Her," from Promised Land.
Their invigorating blend of blues, soul, country and backwoods gospel harmonizing dealt a kick in the teeth to the notion that all blues bands sounded the same.

In loving memory of Richard Clare Danko
Jubilation, The Band’s third album in five years, was released on River North Records in September, 1998.
His 1978 debut solo album, a self-titled gem which was initially overshadowed by the grandeur of The Last Waltz but has since garnered both critical and popular acclaim, marked the beginning of a very important period in Rick’s career.
The almost immediate result of the trio’s collaboration was an award-winning album, Danko Fjeld Andersen (Stageway), which was honored in Norway with a Spellemans Pris (the Norwegian Grammy) for Record of the Year and was released in late 1993 by Rykodisc.

Jeff Coffin, renowned in the jazz world for his work in the Flecktones and the always crowd-stunning effect of playing two saxes at once, has truly come into his own on Bloom: an absorbing and uplifting album of surprising dynamism and depth.
Coffin says of the first two tracks, merrily titled “Move Your Rug” and “Better Do Your Thing,” that he wanted to “give the effect of two bands meeting on the street,” an effect he pulls off enthusiastically with swinging saxes, battling organs and shouted jubilation from the bystanders on the side streets.
In this, his fourth solo album since amicably parting ways with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones in 1997, Coffin begins the odyssey with a triumphant snare drum and a vibrant horn section that made me feel I was taking part in a New Orleans parade.

Splendid Magazine reviews The Harvey Girls: Blabber 'N' Smoke
As a follow-up to their well-received debut EP, this mini-album positions husband/wife duo The Harvey Girls exactly where a DIY, part-time band should be at this point in the game: coming into their own and sizzling with potential to blow minds, if they ever find enough time and resources.
Between the lovably dodgy recording quality and the hodgepodge of instruments (listen for the pots and pans), The Harvey Girls grin their way past serious criticisms and create an album that's just plain fun.
With cheery whistling, syrupy whirlwinds of tambourine and psych-pop fuzz guitar, and a knockout horn hook, it sounds exactly like its title, serving up both a swift kick in the pants and unadulterated jubilation.

 Naughty by Nature
Nature's Finest reminds us that this reach for community -- one made of broadcloth, not patchwork -- was what jolted Naughty's best boasts and toasts into the realm of jubilation without undercutting their toughness or daring.
Naughty by Nature's first new album in four years begins with a silly skit that bucks the hip-hop norm by offering more than just superfluous self-promotion -- even if unintentionally and ironically.
Unfortunately, this Tommy Boy compilation is bungled by several questionable cuts, a lack of liner notes, and a slapdash organization that shortchanges Naughty's best album, Poverty's Paradise.

321 -> Music, Music, Music: Li'l Abner (1956 Original Broadway Cast) by Edith Adams, Lehman Engel, Percy Faith, Percy Faith and His Orchestra, Marc Breaux, Peter Palmer, Ralph Linn, Rosemary Clooney, Stubby Kaye Order now @ 321-music.com
The cast also has a mixed opinion from me. While Stubby Kaye, Edie Adams and Peter Palmer have strong voices, the other supporting cast, including Julie Newmar and Tina Louise of "Gilligan's Island" fame, are rarely shown on this album because most of the songs are sung by a talentless, annyoing ensemble.
A memorable moment is provided by Stubb Kaye and the ensemble performing "Jubilation T. Cornpone" -- I remember his performance in the motion picture version of "Lil Abner" and this is a high-point of the show for me.
Mercer's lyrics are playful and sharp (particularly on the political jab "The Country's in the Very Best of Hands"), and he and de Paul provide the show with both comic showstoppers (Stubby Kaye's "Jubilation T. Cornpone") and romantic ballads (highlighted by the zest of veteran trouper Edith Adams and newcomer Peter Palmer's "Namely You").
