Judeo-Christian - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Judeo-Christian (or Judaeo-Christian) is a term used to describe the body of concepts and values which are thought to be held in common by Judaism and Christianity, and typically considered (along with classical Greco-Roman civilization) a fundamental basis for Western legal codes and moral values.
The term Judeo-Christian values is commonly used in the West, and many Muslim scholars view this term as emblematic of a disconnect between Western-culture Christianity and Islam.
Building on this, Christians believe in the authority and authenticity of the Torah (five books of Moses), Tanakh (The Hebrew Bible), yet become a distinct religion because they reject the Jewish oral law, and add the New Testament, and recognize Jesus as both a messiah and as being part of God himself, in the Trinity.

Generally speaking, most Protestant Christians still believe that Jews must ultimately accept that Jesus of Nazareth was the Messiah and the incarnation of God, and that Jesus is the only correct way to have a relationship with God in order to reach heaven.
Christians and Jews relate to each other better today than they have in the past, but anti-Semitism among Christians - and a corresponding hatred by some Jews - has by no means disappeared completely.
However, many Christians are anxious to point out that their religion ultimately sprang from Judaism, and some of these wish to reclaim their roots in the Biblical, pre-Christian practice of Judaism.

Prager is not new to the fallacious grouping of "Judeo" and "Christian".
Worse yet, since Christians, being the dominant religion, have far more access to media and other forums to assert their message than Jews have to disassociate from it, the risk is very high that Jews will become seen as popular accomplices to unjust policies.
However, since the main text of Christianity (The N. Test.) isn't accepted by Jews, and the main exegesis of the Tanakh (Talmud/Mishnah/Responsa etc) isn't accepted by Christian (and for that matter, since even in the shared text their are serious doctrinal and translation disputes), the majority of the traditions pass each other by.

Regarding the term Judeo-Christian   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-24)
The term "Judeo-Christian" was invented during World War II, when Christians started realizing how rude it was to rail against the Nazis for violating "Christian decency" since so many of the Nazi victims were Jewish.
Unfortunately, all too often, that word merely replaces the word "Christian" without any deeper look at the underlying concepts, thus evoking a popular image that Judaism and Christianity have more in common than they actually do.
Instead, it is much closer to the truth to state that from the matrix of ideas surrounding the end of the Second Temple era emerged two religions, Christianity and rabbinical Judaism, both of which claimed continuity with the original religion.

Although it’s not necessary for a democratic country to be Christian, an effective democracy must embrace values identified with the Christian faith.
