Talk:Judeo-Paganism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I am a Reform Jew (with some interest in Paganism) in the middle of a largely Conservadox enclave at Rutgers University, and am therefore not in as good a position as some others might be (such as Melissa Oringer, for example) to tell the movement's story (if it has a story).
so, while the intro claims that these are groups trying to reconstruct Ancient Near Eastern (pre-Mosaic) paganism, there is no such evidence in the links.
I am currently e-mailing folks for help on this new page, as I don't know as much on this topic as some folks might.

The official pagan cults were dead but pagan spirit remained indomitable, and for centuries it kept resurfacing in astounding forms and in multiple fashions: during the period of Renaissance, during Romanticism, before the Second World War, and today, when Christian Churches increasingly recognize that their secular sheep are straying away from their lone shepherds.

 Neopaganism -
Since the term Pagan was coined from an Abrahamic viewpoint, summarizing non-Abrahamic religions, Neopaganism may be defined as "post-Christian" new religious movements (or, in the recent case of Judeo-Paganism, "post-Judaistic"), and is pronouncedly a modern phenomenon with its roots in early 19th century Romanticism.
The usage of the term is further complicated by paganism apparently having arisen in the 18th or 19th century at the earliest as a term for a primitive state of religious belief, rather than a group of beliefs.

Paganism is not only a matter of accumulating knowledge about the beliefs of the various regions of Europe, nor can we ignore the features that distinguish them, often profoundly.

Generally ''paganism'' is accepted as an umbrella term for Wiccans, Shamans, Druids and an assortment of others whose spiritual beliefs are polytheistic and nature-oriented, or in some way focus on ''magick'' (spelled with a ''k'' to distinguish the belief in using the ''universe's energy'' for spiritual purposes from the magical illusions performed by entertainers.)
What makes the task of characterizing paganism's place in today's culture that much harder is that few agree on exactly what paganism, or neo-paganism, or ''the Craft,'' actually encompasses.
