Gustavo Perednik - Anti-Semitism Conclusions - Theories of Judeophobia
Once Judeophobia became deeply ingrained within European culture, it assumed a life of its own, and was passed on from parents to children generation after generation.
Judeophobia is an intrinsically anti-rational attitude of a generally rational society.
And in the case of Germany as a whole, Judeophobia flourished and reached its climax precisely in the land of philosophy, with the active support of leading thinkers, from Fichte and Wagner to Heidegger.

 Naive Spanish Judeophobia Gustavo Perednik
Several unique characteristics of Spanish Judeophobia have been mentioned, but the most remarkable trait should be considered further: most Spaniards remain completely unaware of the Judeophobic nature of their country and are shocked at the suggestion that Spain is particularly hateful towards the Jews.
Another aspect that is singular to Spanish Judeophobia is the acceptance of the usage of the expression "the Jewish lobby" as legitimate and truthful.
On the conservative side of the political spectrum, Camilo Jose Cela, who was often critical of Spanish Judeophobia, was one of the promoters of the establishment of relations between Spain and Israel, and presided for years over the institute for friendship between the two countries.

JUDEOPHOBIA AND ENLIGHTENMENT Emile Zola wrote in 1897 "The Jews such as they are today are our work, the work of our 1,800 years of idiotic persecution." To free the Jews from their oppression meant to free the Christians from their prejudices against them.
Modern Judeophobia was basically a reaction to the Emancipation of the Jews, which took the form of three trends, each one respectively exemplified in three countries, namely: the socioeconomic (France), the racial (Germany) and the conspirational (Russia).
It was now that the Jews learned to their sorrow that Judeophobia was not neutralized by a mere governmental decree, nor by theories of Enlightenment, nor by assimilation.

For this reason and others the phenomenon in evidence may be more accurately termed Judeophobia — a fear of, and hostility toward Jews as a collectivity, rather than the propagation of the racial ideologies of the old anti-Semitism.
Today's Judeophobia is an assault on the essence of the Jewish collectivity, both in terms of a Jewish sovereign state in its ancient homeland, and the nature of robust, emancipated, and self-aware Diaspora communities.
In retrospect, this new metamorphosis of Judeophobia was predictable as soon as Jews asserted themselves as equals in Western societies or alternatively on the international stage as a nation state.

Schafer uses the term antiSemitism in the broad sense of "hostility toward the Jews," despite its obvious anachronism, for lack of a better term (it was probably first used by W. Marr who founded in 1879 the "Antisemiten-Liga").
