, 1st BARON (1817-1886), English judge, was born at Plymouth, on the 21st of June 1817, and was the son of aprominent merchant of Quaker extraction.
He was elected member of parliament for Plymouth in the Liberal interest in 1852, and in 1859 was appointed counsel to the admiralty and judge-advocate to the fleet.
In 1871 he was appointed by Mr Gladstone one of four new judges upon the judicial committee of the privy council, although it was expressly provided by the act creating these offices that none of them should be filled by a law-officer of the Crown.

JAG, or Judge Advocate General, insures that every officer in the fleet gets the right to a fair and impartial hearing when charges are brought forward.
In most cases the decision can be made by the Judge Advocate General himself, however, if need be, or requested, the AC (Admiral's Council) can be called upon to act as Judge and Jury in a hearing.
This will be sent to the serving Judge Advocate General, who will contact you as soon as possible to establish whether a serious investigation can first take place, and if so what further evidence needs gathering, if any.

Judge King has had over 40 years of distinguished career public service at the national and state level with the Executive Legislative and Judicial branches of government, most recently serving as General Counsel to the New York Department of State under Governor George Pataki.
While an assistant attorney general in the 1980s, Judge King was promoted to lead the Tort Unit in the Albany Claims Bureau, Division of State Counsel.
Judge King was selected to serve as the Inaugural Government Lawyer in Residence of Albany Law School in 2002, and he was chosen as the Outstanding Alumnus of Albany Law School in 2003.

During the reign of Charles II the offices of Judge Advocate and Deputy Judge Advocate of the Fleet, which were concerned with the conduct of naval courts martial, were placed on a permanent basis.
In 1863 it was recognised that the increase in the size of the fleet and the introduction of iron ships into the navy had created more additional work for the department than it was able to undertake satisfactorily with its existing staff.
In January 1866 the Temporary Clerks were dispensed with and replaced by a new class of Temporary Writers who were to have no claim to be placed on the establishment.
