The result was the famous Nuremberg trials, alternately hailed as a triumph of international law and condemned as a travesty of justice.
Judgment is largely a courtroom drama, relying almost entirely on the strength of its performances to hold interest; the cast is a showcase of some of the most brilliant actors of the time period.
Lancaster’s acting skills are sacrificed to the script’s desire to present Janning as predictable and two-dimensional, but he savors every brief minute at the end when he is allowed to break his morally-superior facade.
