Judith Steinberg Dean, M.D., (born May 9, 1953) is a physician from Burlington, Vermont, and as the wife of Democratic politician Howard Dean, was First Lady of Vermont from 1991 to 2003.
Judith Steinberg grew up on Long Island in the town of Roslyn outside New York City, and graduated from Princeton University with a bachelor's degree and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine with a doctor of medicine.
The Deans have two children, Paul and Anne, both of whom have been raised in the Jewish faith.

I guess a lot of people compare Dr. Steinberg Dean to other political wives and note what she is *not* doing, but I've been thinking about this and comparing her to myself or any other married woman who is facing major changes in her life, over which she has little control.
Judith Steinberg Dean is going to be -- no, she already IS -- a great role model for young women (and some of us not so young) wondering how they can balance career and family.
Steinberg Dean, just living the live you want to live you and Dr. Dean are a great example of a caring, powerful relationship: committed to yourselves, to each other, to your family, and to your community (which is expanding to include a fairly large country:-).

Judith Dean is not the anti-Laura, nor is she the ultimate women's libber that Hillary is. She is just a typical Vermonter, unassuming, unadorned, plain dressing woman doctor, who loves what she does.
Steinberg isn't the "anti-Laura." She's much more the "anti-Hillary" or "anti-Theresa." The contrast between traditional wife and working mom is small when one puts either side-by-side with ambitious world-saving would-be empresses or world-conquering social lions.
