		In cooking, jugging is the process of stewing meat (usually whole animals, mainly game, or fish) for a long time in a tightly covered container, such as a casserole or an earthenware jug.
		One common traditional dish that involves jugging is Jugged Hare (known as civet de lièvre in France), which is a whole hare, cut into pieces, marinated and cooked with red wine and juniper berries in a tall jug that stands in a pan of water.
		A freshly killed hare is prepared for jugging by removing its entrails and then hanging it in a larder by its hind legs, which causes the blood to accumulate in the chest cavity.

		Jugging wrong is one step short of campusing, jugging right is maybe about as hard as rowing a boat; it's some work, but it shouldn't obliterate a fit person by any means.
		Part of the problem seems to come from the setup you were using (gri-gri and ascender as opposed to ascender and chest harness for free-hanging jug), but I would also venture to say that part of the problem comes from not being used to doing it.

		Of course, you should be thinking about tying in short (clove hitch or fig eight on locker to your belay loop) about then, assuming that the rope is not fixed on the lower end.

		Chuckwagon, when jugging for flatheads, I always anchor my jugs, and I rig the droppers with swivels, just like I do on a trotline, because I'm going to be baiting with live bream, and the swivels help prevent tangles.
