		In 1593 a small settlement is erected in the Jujuy valley by the effort of Francisco de Argañaraz y Murguía.

		The Menem government initially claimed the protests from Neuquén to Jujuy were infiltrated by "armed ideological groups." The speed with which the revolts spread, however, surprised and frightened the regime, which was forced to change its stance and promise workers a few concessions.
