Jules Albert Wijdenbosch, President of Suriname, said as a result of the Assembly's special session on drugs his Government was now in the final stage of organizing a subregional conference on that issue.
Scheduled speakers are: Andrés Pastrana Arango, President of Colombia; Jules Wijdenbosch, President of Suriname; Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Prime Minister of Mauritius; as well as the Foreign Ministers of China, France, Italy, United Arab Emirates and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
JULES ALBERT WIJDENBOSCH, President of Suriname, said that restructuring the Security Council to properly reflect the current international, economic and political reality was of fundamental importance.

The President of Suriname, Jules Albert Wijdenbosch, said he knew of international concern regarding Suriname's plans to employ its timber resources to support development.
JULES ALBERT WIJDENBOSCH, President of Suriname, said Suriname would establish and maintain relations with friendly nations and international and regional organizations in accordance with international law and on the basis of the Charter of the United Nations and the principles of the non-aligned movement.
It would strengthen its efforts for full integration into the subregion -- into the wider Caribbean and the Americas -- through membership in the Caribbean Community and the Association of Caribbean States, and through participation in the free trade zone to be established in 2005.

Addressing the forty-third session of the General Assembly, President Jules Albert Wijdenbosch characterized the attacks against international workers, including United Nations field officers, as a "disturbing and despicable act" which must be condemned in the strongest terms.
President Wijdenbosch said that his country condemned international terrorism and welcomed the conclusion of regional agreements and mutually agreed declaration to combat and eliminate terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
The President of Suriname also touched on a number of other issues of concern to the international community, including the stalled peace process in the Middle East, the phenomenon of globalization, nuclear disarmament, the promotion of human right, the preservation of the environment, and the problem of drugs.

Afraid the same would happen, but on a much larger scale, Mittermeier lobbied President Jules Albert Wijdenbosch, who turned away the loggers and set aside 10 per cent of the country -- 1.6 million pristine hectares -- as the Central Suriname Nature Reserve, which was quickly declared a World Heritage Site.
To support the reserve, Mittermeier helped to launch a special fund that, at $8-million (U.S.), is now more than halfway to its $15-million goal.

 CARICOM looks to deepen cooperation with Latin America
His Excellency the President of Suriname, Jules Wijdenbosch told the IX Ibero-American Summit in Havana, Cuba that the Caribbean Community looked forward to developing and strengthening deeper relations with the Ibero-American countries.
President Wijdenbosch, a member of the Bureau of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community was mandated by CARICOM Leaders at their Seventh Special Meeting in Port of Spain last October to represent the Community at the Ibero-American Summit which ended in Havana on Wednesday.
