Jules Bourcier (1797 - March 9, 1873) was a French naturalist.
Bourcier was a trochilidist (an expert on hummingbirds), and named a number of new species, either alone or with other ornithologists such as Adolphe Delattre and Martial Etienne Mulsant.

I wasn't able to find much "dope" on this film.
While often compared to fellow Frenchman Jules Verne and sometimes even referred to as "Jules Verne outdone", Paul Hammond (author of one of the best books on ol' George) compares Melies to another author of the time; one Alfred Jarry.
Hammond especially mentions in regards to New York to Paris that it is "a spiritual companion of Alfred Jarry's story 'Supermale'" (haven't read that one yet!).

Returning to France from Italy in late 1800, the 12th became part of the 2eme Armee de Reserve (later Armee des Grisons) and was attached to Laboissiere's cavalry division when Basel was occupied in 1801.
The regiment served with Laboissier's cavalry division in the Armee d'Helvetie in Switzerland and at Vesoul during 1801-02, and with Bourcier's light cavalry division at Belfort with the Armee des Cotes de l'Ocean until 1805.
Finished by Jules Hardouin-Mansart, the chapel of Saint-Louis houses the tomb of Napoleon I. The Army Museum and the Plans-Reliefs Museum are part of the site.
