Because of Simon's moderate republicanism President MacMahon chose him as premier (1876-77) in preference to Léon Gambetta.
As premier, Simon was involved in a governmental crisis in May, 1877; his refusal to accede to the president's demand for his resignation established the principle of parliamentary primacy and the responsibility of the premier to the legislature.

She is swung on a strut from the shore to the ship by the fleshy first mate, Jules (Michel Simon), whose swaggering brusqueness in berating the cabin boy is magnificently undercut by Vigo's simultaneous establishment of his love for his pet cats.
As Jules runs along the deck to embrace Jean, he trips to his knees and three of his cats attack him, leaving a scratch along his cheekbone.
Michel Simon's crustily genial portrayal of Jules embodies the pansexual lawlessness of Vigo's cosmos.

Vincent knew Jules had a hide out in Los Santos which was on the outskirts of town in the shack north of Los Colinas, kind of near Northstar Rock, so he went there and found Jules dead.
Simon caught wind that Vincent was coming to town so he sent out the word that there was a bounty on his head, if you see him report him.
The short version is that Simon and Vincent used to be a team, Simon was the far inferior killer when they both worked for Jules and he had an opportunity to double cross Vincent and become a somebody so he took it, only he didn't kill Vincent he spared his life.

Simon, playing an aged sailor instead of a youthful tramp, brings the same physicality to the role of Papa Jules that he did to Boudu; but Jules, despite his outbursts of anarchic kineticism, is far from Simon’s earlier character.
Jules, at first hesitant about the changes Juliette forces on the ship’s crew, slowly warms to her presence.
While there’s certainly the suggestion that Jules enjoys Juliette’s presence for the sexual excitement of having a woman on board, his flirtations are more a game than an actual attempt at seduction; when the family is threatened, Jules pitches in and bails them out, showing a commitment to society that Boudu could never possess.

Their companions on the voyage are Jean's slovenly second mate Jules (Michel Simon) and Jules' precocious young son (Louis Lefebvre).
Jean and Juliette seem not to matter, though she is far more nonplussed when she discovers that her new husband hasn't done laundry in over a year, and that the dozens of cats onboard the ship freely bear new litters in the kitchen, on her bedsheets.
What follows is an hour and a half first of awkward social dynamics aboard the barge—Jean and Jules sometimes adore and sometimes repel each other, Juliette can't seem to decide if Jules is crude or cuddly—and then, after a series of misunderstandings and jealous eruptions, an unforeseen separation of the honeymooners.

Their home is a barge, after all, and they aren't the only ones onboard; there are also a sailor, Jules (Michel Simon, in one of his greatest performances), and a cabin boy.

He was first advised to devote himself to ecclesiastical history, and laboriously studied Eusebius of Caesarea, Socrates, Sozomen and Theodoret, but "the facts refused to arrange themselves in his mind, and mutually effaced one another." Richard Simon attempted unsuccessfully to teach him Hebrew and Biblical criticism.
At last in 1664 he happened to read Descartes's Traité de l'homme (de homine), which moved him so deeply that he claimed to be repeatedly compelled by palpitations of the heart to lay aside his reading.
A convenient edition of his works in two volumes, with an introduction, was published by Jules Simon in 1842.

 Simon Coat of Arms
Simon is a patronymic surname created from the first name of the bearers' father, meaning literally "son of Simon." Simon was a popular biblical name and comes ultimately from the ancient Hebrew personal name Shimon, meaning "to hearken."
Some of the first settlers of this name or some of its variants were: Robert and William Simons, who settled in Virginia in 1606, 14 years before the "Mayflower"; Henry Symons, who settled in Boston in 1630; Oliver, Sarah, Dorothy, Francis, James, and Joe Symonds, who all settled in Virginia in 1635.
It is hard to say exactly when man first came to the lands that were to become the British Isles, but it can be said with certainty that Paleolithic tribes were flourishing there by 8000 BC.
