Julia Drusilla (39 AD-41 AD) was the only child and daughter of Roman Emperor Gaius (Caligula) and his fourth and last wife Caesonia.
Named after her late aunt and her father's favorite sister, Drusilla, Julia was born not long after Caligula married Caesonia (some sources have her being born on the same day as the marriage).
When Drusilla was born, Caligula took her to a temple that housed statues of goddesses and placed her on the lap of Minerva, instructing the goddess to nurse and train his new daughter.

Julia soon felt that she was once more to become a mother and the hope of this other child seemed to cement the union between husband and wife.
The terms of Julia's exile were made easier; Germanicus married Agrippina, another daughter of Julia and Agrippa, and a sister of Julia the Younger; the widow of Caius Caesar, Livilla, sister of Germanicus and daughter of Antonia, was given to Drusus, the son of Tiberius, a young man born in the same year as Germanicus.
Unlike her sister Julia, she was a lady of blameless life; faithfully in love with her husband; a true Roman matron, such as tradition had loved; chaste and fruitful, who at the age of twenty-six had already borne nine children, of whom, however, six had died.

Drusilla was born in Abitarvium, north of the later city of Koblenz, Germany.
Drusilla herself earned a rather poor reputation because of the close bond she shared with Caligula and was even likened to a prostitute by later scholars, in an attempt to discredit Caligula's private life.
Caligula was thus, in a manner of speaking, publicly proclaiming that Drusilla was his wife, the female head of the household.

Caligula was born as Gaius Julius Caesar Germanicus on August 31, 12 AD, at the resort of Antium (modern Anzio), the third of six children born to Augustus¹s adopted grandson, Germanicus, and Augustus¹s granddaughter, Agrippina the Elder.
Agrippina was daughter to Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa and Julia Caesaris.
Caligula's enthusiasm for divine honors for himself and his favorite sister, Drusilla (who died suddenly in 38 AD and was deified), is presented in the sources as another clear sign of his madness, but it may be no more than the young autocrat tactlessly pushing the limits of the imperial cult.

Trivia: Gore Vidal had originally scripted the role of Drusilla (at least in the very early drafts of the screenplay) for his close friend, Claire Bloom.
It was, therefore, impossible for Drusilla to "introduce" Caligula to Caesonia, or even that they knew each other at all, much less have sex with Caligula at the same time.
In "Caligula" she flawlessly betrayed Drusilla as the rock behind the insanity of Caligula's rule and when she was no longer in the film it was an obvious loss for both the film and Caligula.
