Julian Barendse is the President of the Australian Liberal Students Federation (ALSF) (as of 2005), former President of the Melbourne University Liberal Club (MULC) and former Housing and Services Office Bearer of the Melbourne University Student Union.
Barendse was elected to the Presidency of the ALSF in 2004, and was re-elected at that organisation's Annual General Meeting in July, 2005.
Barendse is arguably one of the most successful student politicians of this generation, with a large amount of credit for the VSU legislations passage going to him.

 Short Story Reviews
Julian braces himself for the outing and in a bit of comic imagery is compared to Saint Sebastian, "waiting for the arrows to begin piercing him" (O'Connor 405).
Julian only concedes to talk to "some of the better types" and the men he deems "distinguished-looking." And he is annoyed when the fl woman sits next to him on the bus.
Julian asserts that, "true culture is in the mind,"(O'Connor 410) while his mother argues culture is in the heart.

Radio National - The Sports Factor - 08/04/2005
Julian Barendse: At the end of the day the sports associations are going to have to stand on their own feet.
Julian Barendse: We’re not actually banning these associations from charging fees, what the government is saying and what we at ALSF believe, is that those students who use the sports facilities should pay for it themselves, rather than being subsidised across all the students.
And these people are saying it’s inconsistent for the Federal government to require the university sector to implement a user-pays system in sport, health and fitness in all other sectors of the Australian society, are substantially subsidised by taxes levied by governments.

Julian Barendse, a prominent Liberal student politician (who must surely be due to graduate sometime soon?), seems to have all the makings.
The main amusement of the [April 2004 student protest] was provided by the Melbourne University Liberal Club, and their rather good concept of the ‘anti-protest protest’.
Mr Barendse was allegedly ejected, but about 7.30pm he ventured back in and nabbed some of the banners belonging to the sponsors.

A Tuesday night function in the city turned into a vomit-soaked event that required the attendance of police, thanks in part to the president of the Australian Liberal Students Federation, Julian Barendse.
A private event run by an accounting students' society for about 50 people was disrupted by a small group of gatecrashers.
Mr Barendse, who works part-time for federal member for Casey Tony Smith, yesterday declined to discuss the events.

On radio last week, the President of the Australian Liberal Students' Federation, Julian Barendse, claimed credit for helping draft the legislation and for the inclusion of the $100 fine to be placed upon universities who step out of line.
It may occur to the uninitiated that University Vice-Chancellors and the elected representatives of staff and students might have been better people to consult with, but VSU is not about bettering our education system.
As Barendse said on the radio, it is about 'destroying Unions'.

I've mentioned Julian before; he's one of the lucky beneficiaries of that bizarre sequence of events we at Melbourne University lovingly refer to as our 2003 student elections.
The thrust of Julian's email was that my analysis was too one-sided.
This is a blog -- prototyping (like its millions of brothers and sisters) the media of the future, where everything is opinion and nothing is fact, and everyone must filter what they read according to their own prejudices and critical thinking skills.

On Radio Nartional today, Julian Barendse, President, Australian Liberal Student Federation argues that university students shouldn't have to pay student union fees because they might not make use of all the services, or they might feel the council doesn't represent them.
I wouldn't personally go that far, but the logical conclusion of Julian's argument is no compulsory taxation at all.
One argument for compulsory taxation is redistributive, another is the free-rider effect: I benefit from the existence of the judicial system, even if I don't directly use it in any particular year.
