The sketch of the Royal Fort of San Felipe represents the role it played in the city and country's history being the place where the Thirteen Martyrs of Cavite were detained and the Fort where the Cavite Mutiny of 1872 took place.
Adjudged by Professor Felipe Padilla de Leon and concurred by the City Council through Resolution No. 83, the hymn was officially recognized on October 2, 1978.
The Franciscan Hospital de San Jose was built for sailors and soldiers in 1591, the San Diego de Alcala convent in 1608, the Porta Vaga (La Ermita), San Juan de Dios, Santo Domingo, Santa Monica (Recolletos) and San Pedro, the port's parish church.

Felipe played it on the piano and, upon Aguinaldo's approval, trained a band to play it for the first time during the Declaration of Independence on June 12, 1898.
In 1924, Felipe attempted and failed to get a copyright for his only memorable composition because it was deemed public property.
While I have given up on Felipe's original in Manila, I'm optimistic that the contemporary copy presented to George Dewey in 1898 will be found in the US Library of Congress or in someone's attic someday and returned to the Philippines.

Tagalog translations started appearing during the 1940s, the most popular being O Sintang Lupa ("O Beloved Land") by Julian Cruz Balmaceda, Ildefonso Santos, and Francisco Caballo.
O Sintang Lupa was approved as the national anthem in 1948.
