He is the son of reggae legend Bob Marley and a Bajan mother, Lucy Pounder.
Born in London, Julian's childhood was spent between England and Jamaica.

Trying to tolerate Julian Marley's first album, "Lion in the Morning," was something that would even test the patience of the most serene Rasta as it was more a poor imitation of Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers' style than an album that could be put under his name.

I don’t want to harp on about who Julian’s father is, but I have to say a couple of the tracks on this album made me think of Bob Marley and wonder how much influence he has had on his son’s music.
Julian reinforces his love of Jah on a number of tracks and to be honest, this whole album was endearing to me. Well worth a listen and even more, an investment.

Marley Magic, a concert recorded in Central Park at SummerStage on a July day in 1996, saw the coming together of Bob Marley's musical family to play and pay tribute to reggae's greatest icon, who died in 1981.
It might be interesting on paper to see Rita Marley perform, but in actuality, it's all such a ho-hum affair, one wonders if these artists were emotionally into this event at all.
As for Julian and Damien, they show why there are still, to this day, the "lesser" Marleys, who seem to be strictly capitalizing on Bob's name.
