Not only does Julian Rocks provide resting and nesting grounds for many seabirds, such as seagulls and cormorants, underneath the water is an invisible world with abundant marine life present.
The Rock also forms a home for rare species such as the leaf scorpion fish, the pineapple fish with bioluminescent organs under its eyes, the shy blue devil fish, white banded anemone fish and a species of nudibranch previously thought not present in Australian waters: Noumea labouti.

South West Rocks is mid-way between Sydney and Brisbane, situated near the mouth of the Macleay River on the broad semi-circle sweep of Trial Bay.
Julian Rocks is easily accessible by boat - it's only 2 and a half kilometres offshore, and I was intrigued by the way the boat was launched.
At one stage, we saw one hiding in a rock, and could just see the tail of another one under the rock with him (I don't really know if it was a him or a her:-).

Julian Cope really is a very erratic performer: some of his albums play like St. Augustine on acid - sweet, divine, censorious, libidinous and completely mad...check out "World Shut Your Mouth" for a taste of what I mean.
Not to forget the pure pop and jangly rock of songs like "Beautiful Love" (most folks rate this the albums best, but I'll pick the rocky, ardent and angry "Leperskin") and the anti-automobile vitriol of "East Easy Rider" and "Drive She Said".
Saint Julian rocks hard, but has a poppy edge to some of it that often serves as counterpoint to his strange lyrics.
