Julius Korir (born April 21, 1960) is a former Kenyan athlete, who won the 3.000 m steeplechase at the 1984 Summer Olympics.
Korir continued to improve in 1984 and after winning his semi-final at the Los Angeles Olympics, he established himself as a serious contender for the gold medal.
Korir missed the 1985 season due to injury, and although he competed for several more years, he never again represented his country at a major international championships.

JULIUS KORIR: One of WSU's most honored distance runners, Julius Korir captured the 1984 Olympic Gold Medal in the steeplechase and went on to become one of the greatest distance runners in Cougar history.
Korir first stepped foot on the WSU campus in the winter of 1983 and immediately made a statement, capturing the Pacific-10 Conference steeple title as a freshman.
Korir attended Kaptumo Secondary School in Kapsabet, Kenya, and was an emerging international star prior to enrolling at WSU.

In 1984, Kenya had the opportunity to re-establish its Olympic dominance at Los Angeles, where this challenge was triumphantly achieved by Julius Korir.
Prior to this, Korir had first emerged in the 1982 season when he won the Kenyan national title.
Korir missed the 1985 outdoor season due to injury, and although he competed for several more years after making a strong return to competition in 1986, the depth of Kenyan steeplechasing talent made it extremely difficult to gain selection on national teams, and he never again represented his country at a major international championships.

Mr Julius Korir, the assistant product and markets manager at the Exports Promotion Council says Kenya’s traditional export markets —- Tanzania and Uganda -— were approaching maturity, creating the need for development of new markets.
The plan is part of the council’s three-year strategy whose implementation started in July 2004.
Korir said part of the funds will be used to intensify export promotional campaigns in new markets.

In 1984, Kenyan steeplechasers were back on the international arena with Julius Korir winning the gold medal in Los Angeles.
Four years later, it was a gold and silver for Kenya in Seoul, South Korea with Julius Kariuki taking the gold and setting an Olympic record that still stands today, and Peter Koech the silver.
Kenya pulled off a clean sweep in Barcelona, Spain in 1992 with Mathew Birir, Patrick Sang and William Mutwol taking the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
