 Petersen biography
Julius Petersen's father was Jens Petersen, who worked as a dyer, and his mother was Anna Cathrina Petersen who was born in Wiuff.
Petersen never returned to cryptography; this seems to be another instance of a problem that must have occupied him intensely for a period, until he found a satisfactory solution and moved on to something else.
Petersen was also a founder member of the Danish Mathematical Society, which came into existence in 1873, and he remained a very active member of the Society.

 Julius Petersen (1839 - 1910)

This graph is interesting for many reasons, one of which is the way it can be constructed from another graph.
The vertices of the Petersen graph correspond to those edges (of $K_5$), two vertices are connected by an edge in the Petersen graph if the corresponding edges in $K_5$ meet at a vertex (of $K_5$).
That is, if $v_i$ and $v_j$ are connected by some number of edges in the first graph then $\phi(v_i)$ and $\phi(v_j)$ are connected by the same number of edges in the second.

his partner in 21st Century Computers in Suffern, supervised much of the volunteer work on the boat, while craftsmen at Julius Petersen Inc., one of the last remaining full-service boat yards on the Hudson, handled the skilled labor.
When the boat was given a sea trial after phase one, it cruised at 20 knots per hour and showed no signs of leaks or structural problems, Lipscomb said.

Abstract: The emergence of graph theory at the end of the nineteenth century is closely linked to the work of two mathematicians, James Joseph Sylvester in the United States and England and Julius Petersen in Denmark.
But both his graph theory and some of the other brilliant pieces went unnoticed or met with outright rejection in his own time. This is not to imply that his life was one of disappointment - far from it.
