Fourth of July weekend started off with a bang on Friday with seven graded stakes races across the country.
Next up at Belmont was the Grade 1, $200,000 Prioress for three-year-old fillies at six furlongs where favorite House Party went wide to avoid any trouble and cruised to an eacy 3 1/4 length victory over Chimichurri and Princess V. in a final time of 1:09 4/5.
The final stakes event of the day at Belmont was the Grade 2, $250,000 New York Handicap for fillies and mares at a mile and a quarter on the inner turf.

 Union raises stakes for July - The Boston Globe
Boston's largest police union is asking Democrats nationwide, including presumptive presidential nominee John F. Kerry, to boycott the Democratic National Convention in July, a dramatic escalation of tactics in the union's quest for a contract.
Police union allies across the country have already begun phoning local delegates and party officials, telling them that entering the FleetCenter will be seen as crossing a picket line if Boston police do not have their contract settled by then.
Asking delegates to stay away from the biggest Democratic political event of the year would embarrass hundreds of Democratic elected officials, particularly if officers from their hometowns are on the picket line.
