Bungee jumping - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bungee jumping (or bungy jumping) is an activity in which a person jumps off from a high place (generally of several hundred meters/feet) with one end of an elastic cord attached to his/her body or ankles and the other end tied to the jumping-off point.
Bungee jumping was featured in the early days of the ESPN X Games but the lack of an objective measure of skill detracted from the event compared to other extreme sports.
In 1997, Laura Patterson, one of a 16-member professional bungee jumping team, died of massive cranial trauma when she jumped from the top level of the Louisiana Superdome with improperly handled bungee cords and smashed head-first into the concrete-based playing field.

 Super-effective 'jumping gene' created
Jumping genes, aka retrotransposons, are bits of genetic material that copy themselves and move around in creatures' genomes.
By inserting the artificial jumping gene into cells of a mouse embryo, scientists should be able to develop mice in which random genes are either silenced completely or simply "quieted" by the jumping gene's intrusion.
Instead, he proposes that, long ago, jumping genes' multiple insertions likely played a major role in establishing the evolutionary shifts that now distinguish mice from men, and that even now their DNA affects how other genes are used.

At these lower heights, it is not recommended to use airplane skydiving equipment for deceleration since the BASE jumper will be deploying the parachute at a much slower airspeed and much closer to the ground, a situation for which airplane skydiving parachutes are not designed.
On the face of it that may seem absurd, but the quantity of data that exists for this system to be utilized effectively are why the most experienced in the sport choose this method.
A BASE jump from 500 feet will have a parachute ride of about 10 to 15 seconds.
