The racial makeup of the county is 96.61% White, 0.33% Black or African American, 1.30% Native American, 0.44% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.57% from other races, and 0.74% from two or more races.
In the county, the population is spread out with 25.40% under the age of 18, 6.90% from 18 to 24, 26.60% from 25 to 44, 24.30% from 45 to 64, and 16.80% who are 65 years of age or older.

The Sauk County Sheriff's Department had assisted Juneau County in the manhunt, and it was a Sauk County officer who requested the helicopter.
However, a trial court determined Sauk County was not liable, as the officer requested the helicopter under orders from Juneau County.
