The Jungle Babbler's habitat is forest and cultivation.

The Jungle Babbler is a resident breeding bird in India and Pakistan.
In the past, the Orange-billed Babbler, Turdoides rufescens, of Sri Lanka was considered to be a race of this babbler, but is now normally given full species status.
This species, like most babblers, is not migratory, and has short rounded wings and a weak flight.

In spite of the name, a more urban bird than the similarly behaved Large Grey Babbler.
In MRI, the two inhabit different parts of the campus, and I do not know what accounts for their preferences.
Am yet to see a Jungle Babbler in Bangalore.

Recently, Yellow-Billed Babblers built their nest in my garden in a mango tree at a height of about 6 feet.
At present a Yellow-eyed babbler is nesting and its nest is about two feet from the ground.
Last year I shot some Jungle Babblers whose nest was in a shrub, and the nest height was about 10 feet from the ground.

The forest around the northern part of the park where Jungle Inn is located is moist deciduous due to the higher rainfall in this area.
The flying lizard, once thought to have gone the way of the dinosaur, is still alive and active in Nagarhole as is its wingless reptilian companion the flying snake and it is possible to spot them gliding from tree to tree.
The Slender Loris, a shy primate also called the Ghost Walker of the jungle, is restricted to India and Sri Lanka and is a denizen of this park.

Jungle Hut at Mudumalai provides impeccable delicious dishes as well - but served water bottles with broken seals only….
Except for a close encounter with a lone male Elephant and subsequent "run-for-your-life" through the jungle, we did not see a lot.

Given the topography of the area, and the fact that most of the birding has to be done from a motorized boat/launch, the list of 114 birds is only representative of the species one can expect to see.
All the trips that are covered under this report were handled by Help Tourism who run Bali Jungle Camp, an eco-tourist resort in Bali Island which is across the river to Sajnekhali Wildlife Sanctuary.
Help Tourism's Jungle Camp at Bali island outside the reserve is well appointed but limited in size.

Jungle Babblers making a commotion nearby drew our attention and suddenly there was a huge Tawny Fish Owl, showing us all its richly-coloured plumage as it waited for darkness and a fish supper!
Climbing into the hill forests we found a lively flock of Black-chinned Yuhina and Black-throated Sunbirds, and glimpsed an elusive Long-tailed Broadbill before it was time to press on to the lofty heights of Naini Tal.
A splendid Scaly-breasted Wren babbler put on a show for us, (and about time, as the previous seven had never showed!) to make complete the trip trio of these tiny birds.

Went to Tiger Camp (a small jungle resort between Ramnagar and Garjia, just outside the SE boundary of the park).
During lunch saw a female RED TURTLE DOVE on a telephone wire and 2 males that I assumed were vying for her affections.
This watchtower, which is basically an enclosed platform on a large fig tree, overlooks a bend in a mountain stream that flows down from the interior of the park.

Water levels in the reservoir were low, giving us the opportunity to view mammals and large waterbirds from the station compound, while excursions by jeep, elephant and on foot, took us through the mosaic of forest and grassland that makes this area of the park so interesting.
Highlights included Jungle Owlet, White-rumped Needletail, Pallas's Fish Eagle, three Cinereous Vultures, a vagrant juvenile Pied Harrier, several contacts with Himalayan Flameback and the diminutive Collared Falconet, Jungle Myna, Bright-headed Cisticola, and Crested and Chestnut-eared Buntings.
Both Painted Spurfowl and Jungle Bush Quail showed well again, as did a superb pair of White-naped Woodpeckers, two Brown Fish Owls coming to roost, several Brown Crakes, two Jungle Prinias, and a tame party of Tawny-bellied Babblers.

Eventually, after passing along narrow highways full of foraging Common and Bank Mynas and Large Grey and Jungle Babblers, not to mention cyclists, wandering cows and gaudily painted trucks and buses, we arrived at the sandy banks of the Chambal.
No sooner were we out of the bus than the first Indian Skimmers were spotted resting on a small island and we were soon admiring these bizarre fl and white birds with their huge orange-red and yellow ‘broken-tipped' bills (we were ultimately to see 42 in total).
It was a pleasure to finally reach our well-appointed jungle lodge, but we were all eager to start exploring Bandhavgarh National Park, so as soon as we had finished breakfast we boarded our open jeeps and headed off.

Alongside the village, the wood gives way to a mini valley which is set in a more open area, and at the start of the day this is alive with bird activity.
After we had spent some time on the Owls, we headed to this spot, and the birds included White-browed Bulbuls, Jungle Babblers, Blue-winged Leafbird, White-bellied Drongo, and plenty of Golden Orioles flying around.
A Flameback made 2 attempts to land right in front of us, but was very wary.

The walk lasted 07:30 - 12:00, and was in reality a touristic stroll through the dry forest.
The eastern side of the river which according to the guidebook seems more interesting was unfortunately closed for tourists during our visit.

At Ramnagar we walked from the bridge north through the river bed but the Ibisbills seen in previous winters here were not (yet) present.
On 21 November 1 ex seen at High Banks in Corbett N.P., and another foraging in the Kosi river bed near Quality Inn Corbett Jungle Resort, 12 km N of the Corbett N.P. gate.
