Junkie XL, aka Tom Holkenborg is already a star in his own right in Holland.
Pete Tong cites Junkie XL as his current tip for 2000, and the likes of Sasha, Digweed, Nick Warren and Carl Cox, among others, have been supporting him on import for some time now.
If you have never seen Junkie XL perform live then you haven't lived.

Junkie XL was formed in 1995 in Holland and has become the first band ever to be officially allowed, by BMG, to remix an Elvis track for release.

 Ink 19 :: Junkie XL
Junkie XL's previous album, A Broadcast From The Computer Hell Cabin, which I reviewed for Ink 19, was wonderful.
The first and foremost problem with Today is that XL -- which is supposed to stand for "expanding limits"-- has limited himself to just one singer (and lyric co-writer), Nathan Mader.
On the more atmospheric instrumental tracks, Junkie XL shows he's still capable of rewarding my high opinion of his abilities.

Junkie XL (also JXL) is musician Tom Holkenborg, born in Lichtenvoorde, The Netherlands on 8 December 1967.
There are also 2 tracks remixed by Junkie XL found on the Need for Speed: Carbon soundtrack.
While JXL is considered to be an electronic music artist, he is surprisingly connected to the heavy metal culture: apart from providing remixes to both Fear Factory and Rammstein, he is signed to metal-label Roadrunner Records and has appeared on Roadrunner United.

It is obvious that Junkie XL has talent and ability but you get the niggling feeling that this has all been done before.
I get the distinct impression that this is probably the last you’ll hear from Junkie XL (at least in this country) aside from his supporting act to Elvis that, incidentally, was not even on the album.
Junkie XL has let himself down in the sense with such a platform to start from already, this could have been much more.

Tom Holkenborg has had quite a journey since his debut Junkie XL album as was unleashed onto an unsuspecting audience back in 1997.
To many who are new to Junkie XL or those fans who might be wary of a "sophomore slump", this album will not disappoint.
'Today' is an album that follows the current Junkie XL trend to a "T", yet as a whole feels just a little too one note for me. I would have liked to see the diversity of 'Big Sounds Of The Drags' and 'Radio JXL' carry over and add a little more flavor between these tracks.

It was during Tom’s recovery that Junkie XL was born.
Tom shot to stateside fame with his rock-slanted break-beat angst on tracks such as “Billy Club.” Junkie XL hired a full band and joined The Prodigy on a tour of Germany in support of the release.
However, it was Tom’s previous working relationship with Nike that led Junkie XL’s assignment as music producer for Nike’s World Cup Soccer ad--a remix of a certain deceased singer--that changed his world forever.

Few would willingly take the name “Junkie,” but after spending more than 18 hours a day in an Amsterdam basement mainlining MIDI and sucking down samples in a binge of creativity, Tom Holkenborg decided to embrace it.
He became Junkie XL, one of the world’s foremost electronic music producers and remixers, a powerhouse who churns out tracks for the dance floor, movies, television, and video games.

As Junkie let the vocals unfold, he eerily lip synced to the dialog word by work, putting one hand out to the left and one to the right, as if taunting the crowd to choose one or the other.

The big-beat electronica project Junkie XL was largely the work of Amsterdam-based remixer Tom Holkenborg, previously known for his work with acts like Nerve and Fear Factory.
Beginning his career at the age of 14, Holkenborg initially played in area funk and reggae units, later switching to alternative rock; while working in a music store, he first began experimenting with synthesizers and technology, and in 1996 won the Grand Prix of the Netherlands as best house music producer.
After completing Junkie XL's 1997 debut LP Saturday Teenage Kick, a blend of electronica and rock, he enlisted rapper Rude Boy (an alumnus of Urban Dance Squad), DJ Frankie D, drummer Baz Mattie, and guitarist Renee van der Zee to transform his one-man studio project into a working band.
