Documentary Evidence - Nick Cave > Birthday Party
Few album titles can so accurately describe the content as Junkyard so cleverly does, implying a tangled mess of music, filled with all sorts of sonic detritus.
The direction they began to move in on Junkyard was the clear tolling of Calvert's death knell.
'Junkyard' evokes the murder song spirit that would guide some of Cave's later work, its graphic wordplay describing some grisly sackload of writhing torment, Howard's guitar coming in like waves of reedy feedback behind and above the howling, whining vocals.

 Junkyard Dog
Junkyard Dog was my hero, and I will always remember him as my hero especially when I browse through my photo album and come across my picture autographed JYdog 1996.
The main event of the show was Junkyard Dog vs King Kong Bundy (this was when Bundy was destroying Hogan on a weekly basis building up to their Wrestlemania match).
Wrestling 2, The Rock & Roll Express, and Brickhouse Brown, but my ABSOLUTE favorite was the Junkyard Dog.

Junkyard came out of the streets of LA trying to survive and make a name for themselves in the late '80s.
Some of the members came from some well-known punk and hardcore bands (including The Necros, Dag Nasty, and Minor Threat), but as Junkyard they are one of the better-known...

This first cut on the album sounds like someone born in a junkyard trying to sound not so junkyardey.

Ten-and-a-half years ago the Lowest of the Low played a show in Winnipeg at the Junkyard, supporting their just-released album Hallucigenia.
Hawkins, who released four albums while the group was apart, says he wanted to be sure LOTL would be as good as he remembered.
They’re also back together and just released a new album, Sordid Fiction, which is, thankfully, not some lame recording cobbled together to support a money-grubbing tour.

Nonconform/Phil Beddard -- Album Covers From the Vinyl Junkyard.
The second half of the book is a wonderful year-by-year discography -- outlining key albums in the west coast scene, including many rare gems -- featured on pages with session details in English, and great cover shots again.
As often as Pet Sounds gets thrown around in "important albums" discussions, all-time-best lists and things like that, especially given the many documented circumstances behind the making of the album -- it's funny that we've never gotten tired of hearing about it.

 Tom Waits - LearnThis.Info Enclyclopedia
His trio of albums from the mid-1980s, Swordfishtrombones, Rain Dogs and Frank's Wild Years, all featured some degree of eclectic instrumentation--Waits' self described "Junkyard Orchestra"--often marrying soul music horn sections to avant-garde percussion reminiscent of Harry Partch's, or the distorted guitar of Marc Ribot.
The 1975 album Nighthawks at the Diner, recorded in a studio but with a small audience to capture the ambience of a live show, captures this phase of his career, including the lengthy spoken interludes between songs that punctuated his live act.
The last of these albums -- an off-Broadway musical co-written with his wife -- and the later collaboration with William S. Burroughs on The Black Rider both demonstrated the increasing interest in theatre, which has resulted in a somewhat successful acting career as well as soundtrack work.

Spank The Monkey - The Black Rider
The co-producers of The Black Rider are Cultural Industry, the people that brought you Shockheaded Peter a few years ago: and you can see that this show is aiming for the same kind of junkyard aesthetic, mixing and matching styles at will.
Waits released a splendid album of the songs in 1993 that whetted appetites enormously.
The Black Rider is described in the programme as 'a musical fable', which is typically the way that writers justify having a narrative that would fit easily on the back of a matchbook.

Mule Variations, MP3 Album Music Download at eMusic
Of course, that's hardly a criticism; the album uses the ragged cacophony of Bone Machine as a starting point, and proceeds to bring in the songwriterly aspects of Rain Dogs, along with its affection for backstreet and backwoods blues, plus a hint of the beatnik qualities of Swordfish.
Tom Waits grew steadily less prolific after redefining himself as a junkyard noise poet with Swordfishtrombones, but the five-year wait between The Black Rider and 1999's Mule Variations was the longest yet.
However, it plays like a revue of highlights from every album he's made since Swordfishtrombones.

Amazon.com: Rapture of the Deep: Music
In their career Deep Purple have only ever had one drummer, Ian Paice, who has banged every drum on every album and every concert, making Deep Purple the complete negative image of Spinal Tap (in the Tap the drummer keeps on self combusting or dying in a nasty gardening accident).
Apart from Deep Purple he has also lent his throat to singing the original lead part in Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webbers `Jesus Christ Superstar', led his own band `Gillan', `Garth Rocket and the Moonshiners' and for one album was lead singer in `Black Sabbath'.
The next time a Deep Purple greatest track album is put out, one of the tracks from this album that definitely has to go on is the title track `Rapture of the Deep', an absolute Purple classic.

Rob Crow: My Room Is a Mess - PopMatters Music Review
A sprawling junkyard of an album, Crow fails to commit to any of his songs, and the result is an album that feels like a novelty at best, and a toss-off at worst.
Crow is a gifted and capable songwriter, but listening to My Room Is a Mess you can almost feel the smirk that must've been on Crow's face as he recorded this album in his bedroom.
But it is this self-important, indie rock snobbery that is the album's downfall.

The Birthday Party, MP3 Music Download at eMusic
They released their first international album, Prayers on Fire, in 1981, earning critical praise in the U.K. and U.S. While the band was preparing to record the follow-up, Pew was jailed for drunk driving; former Magazine member Barry Adamson, Harry Howard, and Chris Walsh filled in for the absent Pew on 1982's Junkyard.
After the release of Junkyard, the Birthday Party fired Calvert and moved to Germany, where they began collaborating with such experimental post-punk acts like Lydia Lunch and Einstürzende Neubauten.
After the Door Door album and Hee Haw EP under that name, the band moved to London and switched its name to the deceptively benign Birthday Party.

Most of the album recounts DiFranco's cross-country touring life, from a junkyard in Iowa where she befriends a 7-year old trailerpark boy ("4th Of July") to power struggles on the bar-gig circuit ("Egos Like Hairdos").
The lil'-folksinger-who-could took on a twangier twist on Puddle Dive, her fourth album in as many years.
Many of the album's beefier arrangements (percussion, accordions and harmonicas abound) make the acoustic simplicity of songs like "Anyday" even more emotionally potent.

 John Hammond ~ Wicked Grin
Venerated bluesman John Hammond's 28th solo album, Wicked Grin, is the latest fruit of his mutual admiration society meeting with well-known junkyard dog Tom Waits.
Hammond recording an album of mostly Waits' songs is much more organic than 1996's insipid Step Right Up: Tribute to Tom Waits.
Hammond's backing band, culled from the best session men around, breathe some fresh breath into boozy classics like "Heartattack and Vine," "16 Shells from a Thirty-Ought Six," and "Get Behind the Mule," from 1999's Mule Variations, Waits' Grammy-winning album that Hammond appeared on.

Boys Next Door - Free Music Downloads, Videos, CDs, MP3s, Bio, Merchandise and Links
The album that appeared, Door, Door, combined the two recording sessions but was not well-loved by the musicians, as they felt the results were too poppy (comparing it to any of their later releases, especially the albums Prayers on Fire and Junkyard, one can't help but agree).
They were rapidly changing their style, anyway, as well as their name: in 1980 they released their first album as the Birthday Party, and soon hightailed it from Australia to London.
As the rising tide of punk began to crash on Australia's shores, the Boys' realized that this was the proper direction for their chaotic, anarchic energies, and homegrown punk heroes like the Saints and Radio Birdman greatly influenced their musical direction.

Which does nothing to prevent the urge to exercise the CD player's skip function on even their best records, 1994's "Bee Thousand" and the next year's "Alien Lanes." But with the band's 12th album, "Mag Earwhig!" Pollard has finally found a reliable gold mine in rock's junkyard, a 21-song album of surprising diversity and consistency.
Led by the stumbling, staggering muse of front man Robert Pollard, most GBV records are maddeningly scattershot affairs, with one throwaway for every minimalist lo-fi rock gem.
Having dismissed his old backup band and replaced it with members of fellow Ohioans Cobra Verde, "Earwhig!" sports a sound that's both tighter and more experimental.
