Junkyard Wars is a popular TV techno competition where two teams are assigned a project concept - the "Challenge".
Once the official Junkyard clock is started, the teams have a mere 10 hours to evolve and discuss a logical machine; scrounge through the junk yard for useable components; AND finish fabricating "something".
Tristan Chytroschek, originally from Britain, was the segment producer for RDF Media's Junkyard Wars who first contacted me in early March about being one of their "experts".

The narration and editing followed a specific template with structured closes and openings before and after each ad set and the educational bits were often repeated verbatim a couple of times per show.
The show is structured and has the same junkyard style as series 2 although there are more teams and rounds before the finals.
Either the scavenging wasn't as effective or the junkyard was not as well stocked.

She thought, let's have a bunch of teams build machines and test them.They duel one-on-one until the finals, and the trophy, thats actually made out of scrap!They are given guidlines, like build a cannon wih no engines or explosives.
The only thing they get to work wih is a JunkYard, tools and duct tape, and a 4-wheeler wih a trailer.

We could have a "junkyard" of code fragments and objects and the challenge would be to string them together into, say, a working hex editor.
If you are going to do a codewise junk yard wars, you should try to think of something which is very creative instead of something a bit bland like hex editors etc. Though what program I'm not sure myself, but when it's all done and put together, has to do something complex but satisfying.
I remember one episode of Junkyard Wars where they told you they hid rocket motors out in the junk.

Safety Note #2: If you're under 18, yes, you can compete, but your parent or gaurdian must be physically present, countersign the event release, supervising you, and responsible for you for the entire session (they don't have to be on your team, or competing, just physically there and watching out for your safety).
We don't mean to scare you off - the worst that's happened in previous Wars has been a splinter or two - but we want to keep it as safe as possible.

This is the most entertaining live action TV programme I have ever seen.
Pitting two teams against each other in a contest of both brains and brawn to produce a complex working machine in 10 hours using only what they can find in the eponymous Scrapheap ("Junkyard" for you Americans) is just plain brilliant.
To make it possible to build the machines, the teams must be able to grasp the basic operational principles behind each one.
