Canadian singer, songwriter and musician Alanis Morissette hosted the 2004 Juno Awards in Edmonton.  "I've never really understood the concept of awards.  I love the concept of honouring people, but people being put in a position where they would be competing against each other in art...It's just such a subjective personal expression," she says.
Morissette became one of the most popular female artists of the 90's.  Her music style changed from dance pop to alternative rock after being signed under Madonna's record label - Maverick Records.  Her 1995 album "Jagged Little Pill" was an instant hit, selling nearly 20 million albums.

 Neil Young News : Neil Young to Perform at JUNO Awards
The three-time Juno Award winner and member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame was twice inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; in 1995 as a solo artist and again in 1997 as a member of Buffalo Springfield.
When Winnipeg was chosen as the site of the 2005 Juno Awards, the city's mayor, Glen Murray, said it was his "dream" to have Young attend the show.
The Juno Awards has confirmed in a press release that Neil Young will perform at the ceremony.

 Canada's Walk of Fame: Buffy Sainte-Marie, musician
Her most recent album was a performance, "Live at Carnegie Hall." Now a resident of Hawaii, Sainte-Marie was inducted into the Juno Hall of Fame in 1995, and named an officer in the Order of Canada in 1997.
She has won numerous awards, including a Juno, a Gemini and an Academy Award for the song "Up Where We Belong," the theme song from the movie, "An Officer and a Gentleman." She had a five-year stint on Sesame Street with her son, Dakota Wolfchild Starblanket, where they taught youngsters that "Indians still exist."
In 1993 she returned to music and recorded "Coincidence and Likely Stories." That same year, she helped establish a new Juno Awards category for aboriginal music.

In 1995, New Orleans' OffBeat Magazine’s Best of the Beat Awards winner for Rock Eclectic Vocalist (tie) was Susan Cowsill and Best Band Runner Up was The Continental Drifters, a roots rock band of which Susan was a member.
The Continental Drifters also won OffBeat's awards for Best Album of 1999 and Best Rock Band 2000.
