Junta - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In modern English usage, junta (pronounced HUN-ta or HOON-ta) typically refers to a military dictatorship, particularly the Proceso de Reorganización Nacional, the infamous military dictatorship that ruled Argentina from 1976 to 1983.
In the history of Spain, junta was the name chosen by several local administrations forming in Spain during the Peninsula War as a patriotic alternative to the official administration topped by the French invaders.
Junta is an album by the popular US band Phish (though pronounced jun-tah as if it were originally an English word).

The album was widely circulated in bootleg circles for over a decade before finally being released in 1998.
Their first live album, A Live One, featured the best versions of songs from 1994 concerts, and was the first Phish album to go gold.
Somewhat of a rare album, most of the audience was unfamiliar with the album, and thus a little disappointed in the selection since they had paid big bucks to stay in Las Vegas and pay outrageous ticket prices from scalpers for the sold out show.

 PHISH Junta reviews and MP3
This album is without a doubt the phinest album in the past quarter of a century.
This album accomplishes so much (I guess it is a two disc set) but the second half describes exactly why this album is characterized as progressive.
This album is as essential as many 70's prog masterpieces, but often gets overlooked because of its vintage and the settling of their sound seemingly after signing with Elektra (though retaining the extreme verstility and weirdness).

 Junta by Phish CD
At the time they recorded their first album, the 1988 double-disc JUNTA, Phish were just an unsigned band from the not-exactly-happening college town of Burlington, Vermont.
But by the time Elektra reissued the album, adding 40 minutes' worth of previously unissued live tracks from the band's early days onto disc two, Phish were both the leading lights of the jam band scene and the group most likely to take up the Grateful Dead's torch.
Junta is without a doubt a progressive rock album but gets looked over because it's by Phish.

Though Phish by many are said to have poor lyrics (Great, by others), it's albums like Junta that show that all they wanted to do is jam and have fun.
Junta is strongly based on jamming, definatley more so than any other Phish album.
The album also gives off a very real sound, similar to how a bands first album usually is. Mainly because at this time, their were simply a couple of Vermont dorm room pals who just liked to jam.

This wasn't fair to the band or the listener; however, Phish have finally succeeded in created an amazing album that can't be compared to any of their live performances.
It seems that along with their lyrics (which have evolved immensely since their first album, "Junta") the quartet has evolved in the studio's environment.
It is clear that Phish is not focusing so much on jamming on and on (even though those are the best moments of their shows) but on this album, they are concentrating on including everyone in the band and making sense with their music.

Junta, Phish's two-disc debut album back in 1989, is said to be one of the best Phish albums, or simply, one of the best albums in Rock history.
The album starts off with "Fee", a song that is now well known by most Phish fans and is a great song incorporating every great element of the band.

It adds more to the album than it would seem, and in my opinion, makes the album much better; it gives the album a spacy, relaxed mood, unlike the generally up-tempo feeling and pace that is present in their other albums.
The only other album that comes close to this space-like mood is Story of the Ghost, not surprisingly recorded in around the same time.
