Junta (game) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Junta is a board game designed by Vincent Tsao originally published by Creative Wargames Workshop in 1978, and later published by West End Games.
The game's title is taken from the Spanish term Junta which originally referred to the executive bodies that frequently came to power after a military coup in 20th century Latin America.
In the game, the term refers to the players who declare "pro-Junta" at the beginning the coup phase, and—if the coup is victorious—to the players who declare "pro-Junta" at the end of the coup phase to elect a new president.

Since then, Elam’s house of games has continued to grow, and though he claims he is slowing down in his acquisition, his youthful excitement for finding the next new game is not abating.

 Junta Review of Westpark Gamers
The Game: The game board shows the important political quarters of a modern capital (presidential palace, parliament, police districts, barracks, embassies, central bank etc.).
Thereupon is a little war game, consisting of 6 turns, in which each side struggles to gain control over the majority of the 5 'key' areas of the capital.
The mechanisms of the game are mature and well proportioned, even if fortune (the president) may distribute the wealth of the state very inequitably.

From that point, much of the game outcome may depend on when the civil war was started and what its outcome is, which depends mostly on the dice.
If it goes to the Royalist, the game will be his, otherwise, depending on the state of the Commune and their Fame, there is a good chance for several players depending on how well they have done in acquiring and keeping regions.
The problem is that there are way to much possibility for the game to be bogged as seen in the other game I played where an alliance between the Feuillant and the Marais coupled with bad luck for the revolutionnaries left the Royalist alone against the government who stomped him.

If we intended to have a game in which the player didn't have direct control of the units on the map, then we had better make sure that the people acted in a reasonable and somewhat predictable fashion.
The game lost "buy-in" from people in the company as it became something that they were less interested in, or someone else's idea that they didn't really understand.
In other words, the game and the maps were great for an open-ended, sandbox style of game, but were lacking in goal-oriented, problem-solving gameplay.

The result is platform game that looks more solid than most platformers (Oddworld also makes use of 3D techniques), and more detailed than most shooters (the camera is controlled, so more attention could be spend on a smaller area).
Basically the game takes the form of a first-person shooter, but being a military simulation there are no armour or health power-ups to be found.

Another was a fun board game I played in college called Junta, which is set in a banana republic where the aim is to embezzle as much money as possible while in power.
Republic the Revolution is set in the fictional Soviet province Novistrana, which broke away from the mother country after the fall of the USSR and came under the rule of President Karasov, a democratically elected leader who is really a despot at heart.
To unearth more about the game world, you may also want to look at the “official” Novistrana web site, where you can view the country’s vital stats, learn how to say a few things in the Novistranian language, and listen to one of President Karasov’s most famous speeches.
