Segismundo Casado - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Segismundo Casado López (1893, Nava de la Asunción, Segovia—1968, Madrid) was a Spanish Army officer in the Second Spanish Republic during the Spanish Civil War.
The son of a military man, he entered the Royal Cavalry Academy at Valladolid at age 15 and reached the rank of major by 1936, serving as head of the military guard of President Manuel Azaña.
On March 4, 1939 Casado, convinced that Prime Minister Juan Negrín was planning a Communist takeover, conducted a coup d'état with the support of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party's moderate pro-Western wing leader Julián Besteiro and disillusioned anarchist leaders and established an anti-Negrín Junta de Defensa Nacional.

In late July, shortly after the war began, the National Defense Committee (Junta de Defensa Nacional) was established to coordinate the Nationalists’ war effort.
At the end of September, the junta decided to consolidate authority under one leader, and they chose General Franco, the most highly regarded Nationalist general.
However, the scandal continued to haunt Franco and the Nationalists, not least because renowned Spanish artist Pablo Picasso immortalized the tragedy in Guernica (1937, Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid, Spain), which many critics regard to be his most famous painting.

Primo de Rivera’s authoritarian regime suppressed far-left groups and allowed moderate-left parties to operate only under the watchful eye of his administration.
Opposition to Primo de Rivera grew, especially after the onset of economic hard times of worldwide depression in 1929, when he lost support among the middle and working classes.
By early 1930 Primo de Rivera acknowledged his increasing unpopularity with factions across Spain’s political spectrum, and he was soon forced to resign.

5W IV: The "Revolutionary Junta" pushes for a fresh revolution - International History of anarchism - Anarkismo
The AD was founded by rank-and-file CNT militants, key anarchist hardliners and anarchist militia, in particular from the famous Durruti Column and the Iron Column, which opposed the Stalinist and statist order to turn the militia into an ordinary authoritarian army with its class divisions and its heavy-handed punishment regime.
The document called for a "revolutionary junta" (meaning a "council" or "soviet") to maintain the revolutionary character of the war by means of the anarchist militia, and for the economy to be placed entirely in the hands of the syndicates.
But junta in the AD's usage did not have the connotations of a ruling military clique which the term carries in English.
