Jurist - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A jurist is a professional who studies, develops, applies or otherwise deals with the law.
In Continental Europe anyone with a degree in law is called a jurist (or a lawyer).
Being a jurist does not necessarily mean that one has the privileges usually attributed to "attorney" or "solicitor" in the United States or Canada.

 The Islam Project
Knowing the history of the law and the schools of law, their differences and legal precedents (decisions of other jurists in the past) are just a few of the many areas that a jurist had to know about.
Jurists placed a value on preserving what is familiar to people in a certain place, based on established tradition.
Arab jurists tried to respect these systems in their judgments rather than imposing the system that was customary in another place and time.

 Tertullian : The Jurist
The jurist is quoted by Ulpian for a verbal opinion of Sextus Pomponius, which would most naturally make him a pupil of Pomponius, whose eminence was from 130-165AD, meaning his birth cannot of been later than 155.
A jurist (iurisconsultus) was not a professional in the modern sense, but rather a man from the Patrician class who was specially learned in law, probably only as one part of his public career, whose expertise was recognised by others.
Both the latter were murdered (the former in 212 in the reign of Caracalla, the latter in the reign of Alexander Severus in 224 or 228), during their public careers, and the line of jurists seems to end around the same time.
