20th WCP: Plato's Concept Of Justice: An Analysis   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
Plato contended that justice is the quality of soul, in virtue of which men set aside the irrational desire to taste every pleasure and to get a selfish satisfaction out of every object and accommodated themselves to the discharge of a single function for the general benefit.
Socrates criticises the defination of justice given by Thrasymachus and he says just as a physician studies and exercises his power not in his interest but in the interest of a patient, the Government of any kind shall do what is good for the people for whom it exercises its art.
Justice is an order and duty of the parts of the soul, it is to the soul as health is to the body.

Programs in International Justice and Society | Ethics Center | Brandeis University
Over the past several decades, a number of new international justice institutions have been established both in response to specific events and to a generalized view that some kinds of judicial proceedings can best serve the interests of the global community.
Neither institutions of justice nor complementary processes take their forms from legal notions alone; they are products of complex social realities and subsequently serve to shape these same realities.
Brandeis Programs in International Justice and Society aim to enhance the work of the international justice system by informing the general public about its accomplishments and challenges, serving the needs of the international judiciary through institutes and meetings, and encouraging inquiry on related activities in the fields of human rights and complementary justice programs.

 Restorative Justice - Home
Restorative Justice presents an alternative philosophy of justice and crime prevention that focuses on the people and communities harmed by crime.
In contrast to the court system, where the accused young person is represented by counsel and a judge determines his or her punishment, Restorative Justice brings together those most affected by the crime to help determine what the young person may do to begin to make amends.
To be eligible for participation, a young person must accept responsibility for their offence and be prepared to stand accountable to victims, community members and their own families.

Social justice - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274) says, "Justice is a certain rectitude of mind whereby a man does what he ought to do in the circumstances confronting him." As a theologian, Aquinas believed that justice is a form of natural duty owed by one person to another and not enforced by any human-made law.
To help restore justice in society, he rejected the competition and class conflict of laissez-faire liberal capitalism and socialism, and instead worked from a framework based on the unity of society.
The idea of an objective standard of social justice has been criticized particularly by moral relativists (such as the Sophists), by cynics who believe that any ideal of social justice is ultimately a mere justification for the status quo (for example Machiavelli), and by postmodernism.

FrontPage magazine.com :: Social Justice: Code for Communism by Barry Loberfeld
To understand "social justice," we must contrast it with the earlier view of justice against which it was conceived -- one that arose as a revolt against political absolutism.
It was now a matter of "justice" that government not arrest citizens arbitrarily, sanction their bondage by others, persecute them for their religion or speech, seize their property, or prevent their travel.
But there is no personified Society who planned and perpetrated this alleged inequity, only a society of persons acting upon the many choices made by their individual minds.

Justice Society of America - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Justice Society of America, or JSA, is a DC Comics superhero group, the first team of superheroes in comic book history.
It was later revealed that the reason the JSA didn't invade Europe and end the war was due to the influence of the Spear of Destiny which caused the JSA's most powerful members to fall under the control of its wielder, Adolf Hitler.
A 1986 one-shot issue called The Last Days of the Justice Society involved the JSA battling the forces of evil while merged with the Norse gods in an ever-repeating Ragnarok (written by Thomas, with art by David Ross and Mike Gustovich).

When looking at the board of directors of local chapters, officers, their advisory panels and membership lists, it is clear that when one goes to court seeking justice, he or she is increasingly likely to have a judge affiliated with the Federalist Society handling the case.
Because so many of the Federalist Society members are seen as opposing civil rights, some people are not quick to accept their professed interest in color-blind justice.

ISJR - International Social Justice Research
Jan-Willem van Prooijen has demonstrated that it is the salience of the concept of status that impacts procedural justice evaluations, rather than status per se.
When status is made salient, observers respond more strongly to the justice features of the procedure (e.g., voice, no voice) and consequently differ more strongly in their procedural justice evaluations according to the procedural justice characteristics.
Using a word completion task, he has shown that status salience makes justice representations more accessible, thus substantiating the notion that status salience makes people more sensitive to variations in procedures by increasing the accessibility of justice concerns.
