Justinus ging zur Schule in Ludwigsburg und wurde dann zunächst in Maulbronn, wohin sein Vater versetzt worden war, von Stipendiaten der dortigen Klosterschule unterwiesen, dann erhielt er in Knittlingen Unterricht.
Zu Ehren Justinus Kerner wurde die Rebsorte Kerner benannt, die 1929 von der in Weinsberg ansässigen Staatlichen Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt für Wein- und Obstbau aus rotem Trollinger und weißem Riesling gekreuzt wurde.

Justinus Andreas Christian Kerner (September 18, 1786 - February 21, 1862), was a German poet and medical writer.
After attending the classical schools of Ludwigsburg and Maulbronn, he was apprenticed in a cloth factory, but, in 1804, owing to the good services of Professor Karl Philipp Conz, was able to enter the University of Tübingen.
In 1851 he was compelled, owing to increasing blindness, to retire from his medical practice, but he lived, carefully tended by his daughters, at Weinsberg until his death.

KERNER, JUSTINUS ANDREAS CHRISTIAN (17861862), German poet and medical writer, was born on the 18th of September 1786 at Ludwigsburg in Wurttemberg.
In 1851 he was compelled, owing to increasing blindness, to retire from his medical practice, but he lived, carefully tended by his daughters, at Weinsberg until his death on the 21st of February 1862.
He was buried beside his wife, who had predeceased him in 1854, in the churchyard of Weinsberg, and the grave is marked by a stone slab with an inscription he himself had chosen: Friederike Kerner and ihr Justinus.

The epitome that Justin made of the large work of Trogus, has often been supposed the cause that the original was lost.
Who or what JUSTIN was, we are left in ignorance; we know not even what name he had besides Justinus, for though one manuscript entitles him Justinus Frontinus, and another M. Junianus Justinus, the other manuscripts give him only one name.
