Justus Lipsius, the Flemish humanist, classical philologist, and literary critic, foremost interpreter of Stoicism in the later Renaissance, and the founder of modern neo-Stoicism, exercised a strong influence on later moral thought.
Lipsius was profoundly influenced by the thought and prose style of Seneca and devoted the remainder of his life to the study of Stoicism.
Justus Lipsius, Joost Lips or Josse Lips (October 18, 1547 — March 23 1606), was a Flemish philologist and humanist.

A new building was built from 1963 to 1969 with 240,000 m² of floor space on 18 levels; it became the symbol of the European presence in Brussels.
Its 3,000 Commission civil servants stayed in place from 1967 to 1991, when it was decided that a complete renovation was necessary and that asbestos protecting the steel structure had to be removed.
Architects Pierre Lallemand, Steven Beckers and Wilfried Van Campenhout were the authors of the 1997-2004 remodeling of the building.

The march - the biggest in Brussels since a riot in 1971 by 100,000 farmers in which one person died - was intended to shake EU farm ministers into dropping or modifying a planned overhaul of the Common Agricultural Policy, known as Agenda 2000.
