"Vish" Viswanath, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in the Department of Society, Human Development, and Health at the Harvard School of Public Health, a faculty member in the Center for Community-Based Research (CCBR) at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), and Leader of the Health Communication Core of the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (DF/HCC).
Viswanath's research interests include mass communication and social change and health communication in both national and international contexts with particular focus on communication inequities and disparities.
Viswanath is currently teaching a class entitled, Health Promotion through Mass Media, from 10:30 AM to 1:20 PM on Tuesdays in Spring 1.

Last fall, Viswanath, who recently finished a Ph.D. in computer science at Cornell University in New York, showed that the absolute value of the Nth number in any random Fibonacci sequence generated as described is approximately equal to the Nth power of the number 1.13198824.
What Viswanath showed is that if you actually start to generate such a sequence, then with probability 1 the sequence you get will have the 1.13198824 property.
Viswanath's result brings to an end a puzzle that has its origins in 1960.

Viswanath is an associate professor of society, human development, and health at the Harvard School of Public Health and the Department of Medical Oncology at Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Prior to that, Viswanath taught at the Ohio State University School of Journalism and Communication for 10 years.
He investigates the reasons for limited access to health information and the implications of unequal access for public and individual health, studies the sociology of medical and health journalism, and examines the effects of mass media — news and entertainment — on health knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors.
