The K98k rifle was the primary infantry weapon of German military forces throughout the Second World War.
Rifles of very similar design to the K98k were already in production at the two major weapon production facilities, located in the cities of Brno, in Western Czechoslovakia, and Povazská Bystrica, in Northern Slovakia.
Beginning in 1941, the various producers of weaponry and equipment being produced for the German military machine were assigned 3 letter codes to simplify reference to these manufacturers, and to obfuscate the source of weapons and equipment for military use.
