KA9Q - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
KA9Q was later maintained by Anthony Frost (callsign G8UDV) and Adam Goodfellow .
KA9Q is also a name for the IP-over-IP Tunneling protocol.
KA9Q runs in a DOS environment and uses just about any network adapter that supports a packet driver interface.

 Martin Stut - KA9Q - A Cheap Intranet Solution
KA9Q seems to be good enough, that (if I understood it right) Demon, a british internet provider, uses it at customer's sites for precisely this purpose.
At the DGD we used a 286/16 with KA9Q as the central mailserver for an entire group of subdomains (*@*.dgd.org).
KA9Q has been developed by radio amateurs ("KA9Q" is the callsign of Phil Karn, the original author), who use it as a full fledged TCP/IP-mailbox with mail forwarding, ftp server, telnet-bbs and IP-router.

 The KA9Q NOS TCP/IP Package
KA9Q NOS attracted many contributors and became very widely used throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s in amateur packet radio and in various educational projects.
KA9Q NOS became the basis for several low-end commercial dialup terminal servers and routers.
KA9Q NOS is now largely obsolete, and I have not maintained it since the mid 1990s when Linux took off.

KA9Q will show you the news transfer rate you are achieving if you have "nntp verbose on" (type this at the keyboard or add it to autoexec.net, perhaps with the DIS front end [D A f6]).
Naturally KA9Q will hang onto the good data which turns up after the damaged packet and thus once the retransmission starts and the missing packet arrives it can (and does) acknowledge everything it has.
KA9Q keeps this list of identifiers in memory if possible, but failing that it has to read the list off disk in order to check.

There are three options and the choice of which to use depends on the type of KA9Q or Pegasus mail client in use.
If the KA9Q Route Mode option is enabled messages are appended to the user's mailbox file (which can also be read by mail clients such as Pine and PC Elm).
This option is similar to the KA9Q Queue mode, except that Mailtraq outputs the files using the Pegasus Gateway format and file naming conventions.

KA9Q is stable, has been in use since 1991, and has been widely used as a non-commercial TCP/IP stack.
KA9Q is written in C and a number of variants (such as JNOS and TNOS) are in use.

The KA9Q Gopher server code was originally written by Chris McNeil with enhancements from Chris and Peter Crawshaw.
We believe that this version of KA9Q is quite versatile as it currently serves as a Mail, FTP, Gopher, NTP, WWW, Finger, and SLIP server.
A much improved version of KA9Q based on JNOS with more powerful gopher, WWW, and ftp servers is being maintained by Selcuk Ozturk and Karl-Heinz Weiss.

This has occurred partly because KA9Q does not support extended or expanded memory, and therefore many people have needed to customize it with the features relevant to them in order to allow it to do what they want as well as fit into memory.
To my mind, the ideal KA9Q release would be a release combining the improved server support of the CWRU release with the working PPP implementation, demand dial, and DNS server support of the DIS version.

However, KA9Q supports full classless routing and so the size of networks or subnets are not restricted to these boundaries.

Of course, all fiddling with your configuration is done at your own risk, and although I have tested these suggestions and provide them in good faith, neither I nor Demon Internet can accept any liability should you incur any extra costs for any reason whatsoever.
