KCSB is the only non-commercial public station in Santa Barbara County, and its broadcasts reach from the station’s tower on Broadcast Peak in the Santa Ynez Mountains to the edges of San Luis Obispo to the north and Malibu to the south.
KCSB, the first radio station in the University of California system, was temporarily shut down after being accused of getting students inflamed to instigate the 1970 bank burning.
KCSB originated in 1961, but its beginnings were not rooted in a commitment to having the varied music programs for listeners on the Central Coast.

KCSB 91.9FM Santa Barbara is a college radio station located on the UCSB campus that prides itself on having no advertising and unique programming.
On April 18, 1970, KCSB was shut down by the Santa Barbara Sheriff's Department.
The department took the measure as a precaution against rioting, which they felt would occur if the UCSB and Isla Vista community became aware of the events of the Isla Vista riots, an outgrowth of anger originating with the Vietnam War that was ignited by the firing of a popular professor.

The resolution of the foregoing issues still leaves for consideration the question of whether the jury verdict in favor of plaintiff Barrett for his complaints concerning the failure of the MCIT to enforce state laws and allow overloaded trucks to drive on the Kansas highways was proper.

KCSB 91.9FM will be having its holiday music sale on Tuesday November 5th, and Wednesday November 6th, from 10am-3pm in front of the University Center on the UCSB campus.
