Military Factory - KC135   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-25)
Four turbofans, mounted under 35-degree swept wings, power the KC135 to takeoffs at gross weights up to 322,500 pounds (146,285 kilograms).
The last KC135 was delivered to the Air Force in 1965.
Through the years, the KC135 has been altered to do other jobs ranging from flying command post missions to reconnaissance.

 Research Project Number 33: Introduction
Research Project Number 33: Investigating the Creative Process in a Microgravity Environment [2] was an interdisciplinary action that bridged the sensibility of the artist with the technology of space flight.
On 4 April 1998, I flew aboard a NASA KC135 turbojet (Fig.
(The KC135 approximates zero gravity [zero-g]; true zero-g is attainable only in outer space.) The KC135 flew 42 parabolas, diving between 34,000 and 24,000 feet, resulting in 18–25 seconds of weightlessness followed by 40–50 seconds of 2g force (twice the normal gravitational force of the earth).

 Grissom
I came to Grissom (then Bunker Hill Air Force Base) in April of 1959 in the second phase of the 305th Bomb Wing's move from McDill AFB at Tampa Florida.
We were able to interact with a KC135 flight crew and flight similar crew where we were updated on the aircraft's new (to us) systems and activities.
While the KC135 has been around for 45 years today's systems are completely different.

Experimental and numerical study of flame ball IR and UV emissions.
Measured flame ball radii based on images obtained in the JAMIC, KC135 and recent space experiments (IR only) were quite consistent, indicating that radius is a rather robust property of flame balls.
A bandpass filter centered at 310 nm with 10 nm width at 50% of the peak transmission blocked essentially all emission except that from OH Both video signals were recorded by on-board 8 mm VCRs.
The STS-83 and STS-94 space flight experiments employed the CM-1 facility that was functionally identical to the KC135 flight experiments in all aspects relevant to the current study, including gas mixing and filling.

 Penn State News
University Park, Pa. -- This March, four Penn State undergraduate engineering students will risk their equilibrium and stomachs aboard NASA’s KC135, nationally known as the "Vomit Comet," to test modifications to exercise equipment used in space.
Chosen as participants in NASA’s Reduced Gravity Student Flight Opportunities Program, the group will test a modification of the Subject Load Device, the equipment currently used aboard the shuttle to tether astronauts to a treadmill in an attempt to ward off microgravity-induced osteoporosis.
NASA’s current Subject Load Device is passive, providing only the force of springs to tether the subject.

She has wanted to be an astronaut since the fifth grade, and she worked this summer at Space Camp in Florida.
She will go back up in the KC135 a second day along with Ed and their teammate Shiju Nadir, another talented aspiring astronaut.

 Chemtrails and Spraying - Grand Rapids,Michigan - 3/20/99 - PHOTOS
The substance being sprayed leaves a chemical signature, which if you look through polarized sunglasses, you can actually see a strange rainbow effect in these trails resembling oil spilled in water.
Most spraying being reported has been done by KC135 military refueling jets, but others get into the act occasionally too.
An interesting point to make here is KC135's don't usually fly at a high enough altitude to create a contrail at all.
