KISS principle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The KISS principle is a suggestion to avoid both.
The KISS principle today is often used by software developers, meaning the software should be designed in the simplest way, avoiding creeping featurism.
KISS is also one of the principles of system architecture.

 WesnothPhilosophy - Wesnoth
The idea of KISS is that the feature must be easy enough to program that before the programmer starts working on it, they have a very clear and strong understanding of how they're going to make it work.
The reason behind the KISS principle is fairly straightforward: often programmers will be confronted with someone - perhaps a user, perhaps a designer, perhaps themselves - who wants them to implement something to work in a certain way.
KISS intentionally has the 'stupid' part, because often 'architecture astronauts' as they're known come up with 'super elegant generic designs' that to them are simple, and most importantly, elegant.

The KISS Principle, much like the Pareto Principle and its many variants, is amazing in the breadth of its applicability.
Albert Einstein said: 'Everything should be made as simple as possible...but no simpler.' This statement should serve as a warning to those who are tempted to oversimplify using the KISS principle.
KISS refers to the result, not the pursuit of that result.

 Occam's Razor
Though the principle may seem rather trivial, it is essential for model building because of what is known as the "underdetermination of theories by data".
In mathematical modelling of systems, the principle can be made more concrete in the form of the principle of uncertainty maximization: from your data, induce that model which minimizes the number of additional assumptions.
This principle is part of epistemology, and can be motivated by the requirement of maximal simplicity of cognitive models.

 KISS Principle / Ockham's Razor
The KISS Principle is a popular maxim that is often used as a reminder to avoid unnecessary complexity.
The translation of this principle of parsimony is: "Multiples should not be posited without necessity".
Anyway, the users of the many theories and methods on 12manage are well advised to be careful with applying the KISS principle and Ockham's Razor too quickly.

 Poynter Online - Feedback
Some Editors that I have had the misfortune to work with seem to believe that the KISS Principle is properly applied by limiting the vocabulary in a piece to that of an upper elementary student.
If we are to apply this principle to our works, I feel that there should be a uniform explanation of the term, one that is adhered to by all editors so that writers can elimiate that as one of the reason their articles are refused.
In my opinion, that is the only acceptable use of the principle, the paring down of a work to its essence, which has nothing to do with the words including some that an average person may have to look up.

Kiss Rebreather   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
The principle of the KISS rebreather is used by a rather large group of rebreather divers in order to rebuilt there (mostly SCR) rebreather to a closed circuit system.
The term KISS as used for rebreathers was coined by Gordon Smith, who first began using this system for diving rebreathers in his KISS (keep it simple, stupid) rebreather.
What is done to dive "KISS System" is to produce a very small constant *mass* (not volume) freeflow of 02 into the loop that is (and this is VERY important), slightly LESS than that needed by the diver.

K.I.S.S. In engineering talk, K.I.S.S. means, "Keep it simple, stupid." Scientists use the more literate sounding rule of "Ocam's razor" — all else being equal, the simpler theory is preferable.
The basic principle is the same: If your explanations, constructs, or theories get real complicated, they are probably wrong.
I'm increasingly of the opinion that "K.I.S.S" applies to relationships with self and with others.
