KMZT-FM - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This came due to the fact that down the dial, KFAC dropped classical music in favor of a popular music format.
In 2003, the call letters were changed to the current KMZT, selected as to pronounce "Mozart".
KMZT bills itself as the most listened to classical music station in the Western United States, although its ratings are generally in the middle of the pack.

COMMENT / Classical music fading from Bay Area radio
After a little more than a year on the air, KMZT (1510 AM) was yanked by its owner and replaced with a Christian-themed format under the call letters KJQI (pronounced "K-Joy").
KMZT (K-Mozart) may not have had the strongest or most reliable signal in the area, and its restriction to broadcasting during the daylight hours was certainly a drawback.
KMZT's programming included symphonic repertoire not written by Mozart or Haydn -- some of it from the 19th or even the 20th centuries.

Of course, back then, KMZT had different calls, which I also can't recall.
I presume that the station is now classical and that KMZT stands for K-Mozart.

In 1998, saying he was losing money, Levine switched to an ``adult standards'' format under the call letters KJQI and left the classical field to KDFC.
