The KNU should not forget the fact that it is an inspiration for the Burmese who cannot fight the regime.
Part of the KNU strategy should be bringing the ceasefire negotiations out into the open, as the junta is adept at using deception, secrecy and divide-and-conquer tactics.
If the KNU cannot receive any concrete promises regarding the political reform process from the junta - though not a 100% makeover of the current system, which is impossible - they should think twice about the deal.

Burma’s biggest armed ethnic group, Karen National Union (KNU) is planning to hold an emergency conference on 15 November at one of its undisclosed bases in the jungles on the Thai-Burma border.
The conference is to be attended by all KNU brigade commanders and representatives from the districts.
The representatives are likely to make some changes to the KNU leadership as Vice chairman General Saw Bo Mya who met with the junta’s ousted “prime minister” General Khin Nyunt for the ceasefire talks, is likely to be allowed to retire due to his deteriorating health condition.

I hope the KNU and other groups are not relying on their blind faith alone.
One can say in the time of peace, especially for KNU most of whom are Baptist Christians through American Baptist Missionaries are not seeking for a breathing space to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, which is known as Christmas Day.
Blind faith or not, KNU and others have to consider the benefit of all people in a country call Burma(Myanmar) regardless of their ethnic race.

A team of KNU officials led by KNU joint-secretary (1) Major Too Too Lay and foreign spokesman Phado David Htaw, is planning to meet with Burmese officials in Mon State capital Moulmein and if the situation is good, they are likely to go on to Rangoon.

Mar 25, 2005 (DVB) - The Karen National Union (KNU), one of the remaining armed groups which haven’t signed ceasefire agreements with Burma’s military junta, State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) is finding it hard to accept new proposals put forward by the junta.
KNU central executive committee (CEC) members and its delegates who recently went to Moulmein to hold ceasefire talks with the junta, held a two-day long meeting, at a camp on the Thai-Burma border, on 23 & 24 March to consider the proposals made by the regional Burmese military commander Gen Myint Aung.
The KNU leaders are finding it hard to understand these “proposals”, and the Burmese regional commander seems to be not interested in political dialogues, according to another KNU official.
