Messerschmitt KR200 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Messerschmitt KR200, or Kabinenroller, was a three-wheeled microcar designed by the aircraft engineer Fritz Fend and produced in the factory of the German aircraft manufacturer Messerschmitt in the 1950s and early 1960s.
The KR200 replaced the KR175 and was a mostly a total redesign whilst retaining the original concept.
The KR200 ran on a one cylinder two-stroke air-cooled motorscooter engine, which was in front of the rear wheel, just behind the passenger's seat.

The KR200 came in several variants: the bubble-top coupe, the convertible cabriolet, the Spartan, topless Sports, and the KR201 roadster.
From all accounts, the Tiger was a rapid and nimble sports car, but it cost twice as much as a KR200 (and lost the tax advantages of the 3-wheeler) and in fact was as expensive as Austin-Healey's new Sprite, a much less radical vehicle.
The KR200 bubbletop is the most common (though many have been restored as cabriolets due to the difficulty in finding replacement domes).

A well known appearance of this car is in Terry Gilliam's Brazil, to great effect, and a red KR200 was owned by the singer Elvis Presley.
The cars were actually made by Fend's own company in the Messerschmitt works at Regensburg and Willy Messerschmitt had very little to do with the vehicles other than ruling that they carried his name.
In 1968 Messerschmitt AG merged with Bölkow, and one year later the aviation department of Blohm + Voss was added.
